BBC 1 7.30pm

It's on bbciplayer now, just watched it, it's not very in depth, but it's shocking just how little the ports do to check what's going on, they basically don't check anything, no paperwork, don't check they aren't stolen, nothing :(

It was on Look East, Inside Out, this evening - as sarahann ^ above said, not in depth but just makes you aware how little checking is done on horses leaving the UK. I guess that if a horse "looks like a competition horse" (read in to that what you will), then they will pass muster, so to speak. Although it appears that very few horses in transit are checked in reality.

We watched it. Having shipped a CB to France on our own transport and a Shagya stallion to the UK, we can confirm there are few checks. Although our stallion's passport was photo-copied on the French side.

Certainly no vets in evidence at ports.

I understood that the whole reason for minimum value export legislation, was to prevent low value horses being exported. Once they are in mainland Europe there is nothing to stop them being transported on long journeys to slaughter.
