Hello everyone,

This is nothing horsey but I thought I would share it with you and may be someone out there can knock some sense into me!!!

I showed a lady from Swansea and her Polish partner my 2-bed rented house this afternoon. The house is being marketed by an agent for £750/month. They viewed the property and she said she would text me. I just got a text from her an hour ago asking if I would accept £450/month.

My immediate thought was that BBC daytime TV programme Bargain Hunt! - you are not supposed to offer the full asking price and someone's got to knock the price down!!! I just worked out what TWT - Total Waste of Time feels like!!!

I think I am feeling better already...

Send a text back thanking her for the offer of £450 per week but the rent is only £750 per calendar month.

Also let the letting agent know they have a timewaster.

I wouldnt even entertain looking at something over my budget, its a waste of my time & yours. It certainly wouldnt occur to me to make an offer, the only time it did cross my mind was with a smallholding that had been up for rent for a while, but i never did & went for a different place instead.

Makes you wonder if they will be on "the I cant get them out of my property and they havent paid the rent in months list" in the near future. Cheeky devils. If you are using an agency make sure they know because they obviously have no scruples. Bad tenants are a hell of a job to get rid of as I have found out in the past. Choose your tenant (s) carefully.

Same when selling anything though these days. I have some 'as new' paddock equipment for sale at half the price of new and yet still I get people offering half of that!!
Everyone likes a bargain, and if you don't ask you don't get but honestly people do take the P!!

I blame Martin Lewis. Used to like him and thought he was very helpful. Now he is so cocky it drives me nuts. Constantly telling people to never pay the price of anything. Haggle haggle haggle.

Fine to a point and in some situations, but the loons he convinces to have a go are useless at it. As OP's experience shows.
