Did anyone watch it last night, me and the OH couldn't believe our eyes, what a nasty vile man he was! and the poor bitch to those puppies just cowered away from him all the time, obviously he is heavy handed with them, terrible, just out of interest has anybody on here ever bought from a puppy farm?

I know its common knowledge that people shouldnt but how many of you could go to a place like that and not end up buying a pup because you couldnt bare the thought of leaving it there.

The way he spoke to those undercover people posing to purchase a puppy as well....let alone the poor state of his dogs, very sad and upsetting to watch.

As hard as it is, never buy the pups.

You are just feeding the puppy farm trade.

Also you'll prob find your pup will spend so much time at the vets with who knows what wrong with it.

So sad.

I hate puppy farms.

Oh yes I know, I'd never buy one, just suprised me how many people actually do thats all, for the sake of getting a pup a little cheaper.

I traced my dogs breeder and was stunned to find that she was a "commercial dog breeder" (her words, same thing as a puppy farmer in my eyes).... she is very open about it, takes deposits via paypal and has her own website. I find it quite shocking. I have no idea about how she keeps her dogs so can't comment on that but I don't believe that she has all those breeds interests at heart, she deliberatly breeds random crosses as well as many pure breeds. She also offers a number of dogs at stud. I just don't like any of it.

Tis very true, there was a spate of puppies needing vet treatent in my area, coming from a puppy farms, that where delivering them like pizza, they did a documentary, and my mam had her say, which of course being my mam, it was straight to the point, she received a solicitors letter, stating slander, and that she could effect the business, It also said at beginning of letter that there was no profiteering, business

, bit contradictory

basically she and vet where saying, don't buy, unless u see parents, and from health tested dogs, and don't have them delivered, don't encourage and line the pockets of tax dodging breeders. who keep bitches and puppies in horrific conditions.

It is true though, people see, A, a cute puppy and want it. B, a puppt looking pityfull and in poor condition, and want it.
C, Know no better

A place I worked where they trained animals for films (ok so was only 2 weeks work experience) used to go to puppy farms.

But - they were there to buy the mothers. Didn't tell the puppy farm owner what they wanted them for (as if he knew it was for filming he would ask big bucks

) and used them in at least one film. Then they were rehomed with someone from the cast/crew. There were lovely little dogs - yorkshire terriers and not my cup of tea, but they were very sweet.

I am a rescue dog person myself - I don't think I would ever 'buy' a dog (and yes I am aware you have to pay for dogs in the rescue centres, but at least you can see what your money will be used for, and its not salon visits and fancy cars for the staff

Yep, then end up paying more than they ever imagined in vet fees, for heart conditions, epilepsy, parvo, e,t,c, the list is endless.

The industry over here is enormous, and sells to pet stores in large cities or over the internet; they don't allow people to visit the farms over here, and with good reason. Absolutely vile operations, and anyone who tells me they're considering buying a puppy from any of the spangly pet stores in NYC gets directed here (and it makes me especially sick, seeing all those Boston Terriers in cages in the video

Prose, I was shocked at the amount of small ads in the NY papers for 'adorable teacup sizes'.

However we're no different, there are single ads in the local paper selling huskies, borders, poodles, labs, mastiffs, westies, all different ages. I wonder why?

Puppy farmers - Five words - Its all about the money.

Profit Profit Profit.

Innocent Joe Public feels bad and wants to rescue the poor pups (which I do understand) but their heroic act of "saving" one pup, just justifies the PF's to keep breeding.

One ad in my local paper, listed all the popular breeds as for sale - blatantly PF but nothing you can do. Except vote with your cash and don't buy.

That place you worked at wouldnt happen to be in Yorksihre would it?

Nope! Was in London, and if its the one I'm thinking of in Yorkshire its just off the A1 (well it used to be). I did buy a horse from there once. They were going to use him for battle re-enactments if I didn't buy him!

I couldn't believe it when he said that they couldn't touch both puppies, they had to pick one from through the bars and as soon as they touched it they had to buy it otherwise the mother would kill it????!!!!!
Are there any people that actually believe that??!!!
Don't know how all these reputable breeders cope with all these dead puppies after inviting lots of people and potential owners round to help socialise the pups and.... touching them (horror of horrors!!!) before they are old enough to go to new homes!!

Yes, the newspapers are full of them, and there are at least five pet stores--one opposite Bloomingdale's--that sell puppies for $1500-2000: more than you'd pay from a reputable breeder. Madness.

My friend has a Boston Terrier that spent the first four years of her life in a mill. She is now 13, and while she lhas learnt to trust people again, she is incredibly aggressive with 99% of dogs (though she likes Stella, for whatever reason).
