I am afraid to tell you that just checking out the BBC red button on freeview schedule and the eventing is not in there at all unless I am missing something.
However all the live feeds available on Sky are available via their new olympic viewer (which is a live feed) on your computer or Laptop.

When I go to the main menu, there is a new option, under select all channels is a new BBC olympic tab, don't know what's on it yet but it's said to have 24 channels.

Broadband streaming is a no go, speed is so slow it barely copes with iplayer. and not all all if someone else on line!

That is the extra 24 channels being broadcast through Sky and freesat not on terestrial.
These are the same as available online!

This is s**t! I taken holidays from work to watch the equestrian events and I don't have sky :( why can't they just add them to freeview, so everyone can watch!

They are. There are 24 olympic channels added to the freeview / freesat / cable service. The only place I don't think you can pick them up is if you are still using an analogue signal. Plus they'll be screened live over the internet if you watch from a PC or internet capable TV.

There's an article in the news section of H&H today explaining this but you're right and unfortunately Freeview viewers will not get the 24 red button channels. It's come as a surprise to me too and I'll be looking into getting Freesat or similar having also swapped a day off work to watch the XC. Those with Freesat, Sky or Virgin Media will get the full coverage.

Does anyone know how you can get Freesat?

Don't forget that there's the ERA party on XC day which will be showing it all on a big screen with food and drinks and in the company of like-minded eventing enthusiasts.

They are also broadcasting olympics using BBC 1,2 3 4 and HD channels as well so hopefully eventing will be on one of those. I can't find tv schedule for those dates yet.

I dont think it will otherwise it would have been in the H&H article.
I cannot understand why they are not on freeview I am suspecting pressure from sky to try and drum up business. There will of course be full coverage on FEI tv as well.

From those two schedules above it looks like anyone who has just BBCFreeview won't get to see Mon 6th and Wed 8th SJing coverage.

i'm fairly sure that if it's on BBC you can watch it on BBC online, can't you?
Still a few tickets left for ERA Party (near Tamworth) if anyone can make it on the Monday (XC Day), we're doing our best to make it amazing for everyone!

Yes you are right the BBC is doing live streaming of the 24 feeds that are going out on sky and freesat. However a lot of us in rural areas will not have fast enough BB to use it.

Ive just had Freesat connected up so i will get all the new channels. I had it done through a sky box so i can also get Horse and country without having to have sky.

!

Quite possibly, but for my steam-powered computer I suspect it will be a step too far!

Am likely going to visit a friend with Sky on the day anyway but I like watching all the sports (loved the Sydney Olympics because the time difference meant I could stay up all night and watch absolutely everything!) so will try to investigate Freesky for those reasons as well.

Damn, I was planning on recording the xc coverage as I've stupidly booked a flight smack in the middle of xc day  Going by this thou it sounds like I won't be able to as only have freeview :(

Full details of the TV schedule can be found on page 40 of today's magazine.

For people worried about missing the cross-country the current schedule is for it to be on BBC1 12.30pm-1pm, BBC2 1pm-1.45pm, back to BBC1 at 1.45pm until 2.45pm then BBC3 from 2.45 until the end, so everyone including freeview viewers should be able to watch it, although it's going to be a bit of a faff to record with all the channel changes!

This is what we understand and is probably still subject to change.

For those of you wondering how to get Freesat there are 2 options:

1) Buy a Freesat box & dish & get someone to install the dish pointing the right way (or just point it in the same direction as everyone else's in the street).

2) Get Sky for 12 months with the latest offer and the free equipment & installation. At the end of the 12 months cancel your account but request a 'free sat viewing card' from them. They will grumble and moan, but they will sell you one for a one off fee of £5 (this might have gone up!). This allows you to use your Sky box as a Freesat box, for ever. You won't be able to use the recording though.

Thicko question time - but what's the difference between Freeview and Freesat? We have Virgin phone, broadband, tv box but don't subscribe to their extra channels, it's whatever comes free! Is that Freesat and in which case will I get the XC coverage?

I too have booked the day off to watch it. Having missed my annual sofa XC day complete with tasty treats that is normally Badminton, I was looking forward to the lympics but I might as well come to work if I can't watch it!

Sounds like freeview to me (or Virgin Media). Freesat, as the name implies, requires a satellite dish. See HHO Sdmin post above though - looks like the whole XC coverage will be available on the normal BBC channels.

We are going to the games on XC day, I will be leaving instructions for my Sister's house sitter to set up her TV to record it! Sis has The whole Sky package so fingers crossed we will get some of it!!!!

from an earlier post it sounds as if the eventing is being shown on 'proper tv' so you should be able to watch on iplayer later on.

Couple of seriously numpty questions - I'm a bit baffled:

I have a basic digibox with no virgin/sky etc so I get basic freeview channels: I could not get the cross country from Badminton last year... but can get Dave/5USA etc (for instance)

My internet connection is only ok for watching stuff on - it freezes and jumps (I'm told this is when it is buffering) also my pc/chair is unconfy and upstairs while my sofa is lovely...

I was planning on watching most of the eventing not just the XC and also some of the pure SJ/Dressage.

Where can I find out what is being streamed on 'normal' channels? (I don't care about HD - can't tell the diff) as not all Red buttons are equal...

Second question:
IF I can't get what I'm after I'd maybe be willing to pay for a month of FEItv, BUT I can't tell if I'd be able to get that either - is it just something I can tune my digibox to or would I still have to watch via computer?

Thanks!

I suspect the normal channels will have none of the coverage you want apart from the CC all will be on one of the streaming channels.
FEI tv is only available on the internet so no use for you.
Freesat may be an option for you but it is whether you wish to spend maybe £200 just to watch it all.I am guessing as you come from Yorkshire that will be a no! lol .
Sorry could not help myself!
The other option you have is to take out the cheapest Sky TV package at £21.50 a month and just keep it for the 12 months minimum but this will include a free sky box (hard drive recorder so you can watch some later) and installation.
