There seems to be a lot of confusion about qualifying rules recently, so i thought id post a separate thing outlining brielfy what the rules are on qualifying for certain things.

I think everyone knows that 2 scores of 60% and above qualify you for the Area Festival at that level.

To qualify for the regionals you have to either win or come second in the prelim (thats 2 classes), and win 2 classes (one of which must be a qualifier) from novice restricted upwards. The percentages are in the rule book that you need to be above to qualify. (so say for example someone won and elementary restricted class on 62%, they wouldnt qualify as even tho they came first the qualifying mark is 64% for ER).

Music classes - top 3 qualify with scores 60%+. If someone has already qualified it is 'passed down'. There are no petplan AF music classes, only regionals. The music finals are at the Winter Championships, not at the Nationals, so deadline for qualifying for this years regionals (to get to the 08 Winters) is 30th November.

Petplan AFs - in the prelim, novice restricted and novice open ONLY top 4 go through to 'second round' at the Winters. Then top 30 from second rounds go through to 'finals' also at the Winters. Elementary upwards is the same rules as last year - top 2 qualify. If the class is split then only 1st place from each section qualify.

Hope this has helped clear up some foggyness on qualifying!

The numbers are correct but the terminology not quite accurate.

First, those qualifying at Area Festivals will compete at the Petplan Equine Championships, not at the Winter Championships. Whilst it is held concurrently with the Winters at Hartpury, it is a different competition.

More importantly , in the P, NR and NO, all 40 competitors attending are deemed to have got through to the Championships, not just to a second qualifying round. That may sound picky, but BD would like riders to feel that they have succeeded in getting to a Championship, even if they don't make the to 30 to go forward to round 2 of those 3 classes.

realistically i reckon several people dont end up going so if 40 qualify for the finals bout 30-35ish will go so you'd have to be really unlucky not to get through to the final finals.

Isn't it more like 60 to qualify? With 4 qualifying from each of the 16 festivals that actually makes 64 per class potentially - it's going to be busy!

yes you are right, 64 in total, so roughly 60 then the top 30 go through.

But like Star said its likely a few wont go - i might not even go as it depends when Bloss has her foal as to whether i can go or not!!!

BD rules are the most complicated in the world .Was going to do winter regionals at prelim and novice but that will mean I can't do petplan at that level next year, so think we will just stick with the prelim regional and do petplan novice again next year. These restrictions don't really encourage you do have a go at better things but can understand them.Just if you are not brilliant you might as well stick to lower level and not knock yourself out of competitions. Some judges adore us 70-80%, then you get some that don't 65-70%.I know that is still good and we should do more comps but just don't want to restrict what we can do by getting more points and having to move up without getting to some champs.Bet you think we are daft but just know our level and with a young horse that you want to keep for life it is easy to put yourself out of the things you enjoy and riding club things
