Hi Guys,

Goodness BD is confusing! I have been a member for less than a year and want to aim for area festivals this season.

Can I compete in Prelim and Novice?

Also, how long do I stay at Bronze?

Thanks
Shoei

So the area festival qualifying period for 2019 starts on 1st October this year, for AF first rounds starting next spring.

You can ride at prelim and Novice, yes.

You can stay in prelim bronze until you have more than 15 points at Novice.
You can stay in Novice bronze until you have more than 15 points at Elementary.
(I'm assuming your horse doesn't have an BD points either). Have a look at the flowcharts in the rule book if he does.

Once you get your qualifying sheets at Bronze, you can still ride in the bronze AF if you subsequently move up to silver prelim.

The thing to be aware of though, is if you also want to do regionals, you can't do them at the same level as AFs in the same year.

Thanks for that, it's really helpful.

That great, we have only done one Novice so far and it was in the heat so our result was not great!

I think I'm just going I'm just aiming at areas this year, he hasn't a huge amount of party experience and I think these will do him good!

does BD ever get a bit more "exciting"?

I recently registered BD and attended an area festival.....being an "unaffiliated" bod for many years in all disciplines. I could not believe how flat the whole occasion was!!!! even the presentations had no music nothing. Even for winners it was kind of an anti climax.......
