After 5 months off for problems with Pastern (very long story), we went out to the Berkshire College on Saturday. Was so chuffed to be back out competing and so was my boy. Warmed up brilliantly and did what I thought was a great test. Came out buzzing and got 63.4%! I'd be lying if I said I wasnt a little disappointed, but looked at the other marks and they were either in the mid 50's of low 70's, so in hind sight was very pleased. Puzzled by some of the judges comments though, but hey thats dressage!

However, he did not feel 100% on 'the leg' on Sunday, so spoke with my vet and she wants him back in for another injection into the joint. To say I am gutted is an understatement. She seems to think he will be back in work within a week and we can continue - if it works!

So all in all a good and slightly bad weekend.

I was there too and to say i was un-impressed with the judging would be an understatement.

Well done - thats great news. We had a "return" outing at the weekend too. Our chap had been turned away since August, injured his back, came back into work December and thought we'd give him an outing to see if he was up to the mark - was 1st and 2nd in the 2 mediums - pity the 1st wasn't the qualifier though - never mind! Really pleased with him, particulary as he looks like the poor relation as we haven't clipped him!!

The first test I got 'set in neck' and 'not moving off inside leg'. So went and worked on flexing, did some half passes etc to get him moving and more supple, then in 2nd test got 'too much flexion' and 'needs to be straighter'!!!! Was just a little puzzled what to do for the best! I suppose its just down to judges personal opinions and how they like to see a horse being ridden. Im happy though. He was really well behaved.

We have been back to the vets today though for our second injection into the Pastern. He was so brave. I have everything crossed that this works.

Murphyboy - which one were you????? What classes were you doing?

Were you doing two test with different judges? Some judges may be hotter on noticing certain things than others, but will all have been trained to judge on correct training and way of going. I can see how the comments you mention could be contridictory to you. The first judge obviously noticed a lack of suppleness and commented in a certain way, the 2nd judge also commented on this - as the horse needs to be supple before it can truely be straight.

I think it is more of a difference in the angle of the issue being highlighted rather than the judges looking for different things.

Anyway glad you are pleased with him and a very respectable mark.
