A little confused here so please help... red hair moment!!!

If you have qualified for Summer Regionals at Novice but also have Elementary scores Training and go for Area Festivals and do the Area Festivals in Sept Elementary can you then still, if you qualify go for the Winter Regionals at Elementary even though you have done Area Festivals in Sept, I believe do Winter Regionals whcih are not until say Jan/Feb??? If you won Area Festivals at Elementary isnt this then a qualification for Winter Champs? So therefore you cannot do Winter Regionals??? ummmmmmm...

Area festivals qualify for Area fest champs at winters. You can still do regionals at elementary.

You couldn't do it the other way around, qualify for regionals at elemntary then do area fest. at same level.

So IF you do AF and qualify for Winter Champs, and then do Regionals and Qualifiy for Winter CHamps you can do both?? AF and Normal Championships?? I am completely brain dead today!!

OK, and breathe!

Let's try and sort this!
Yes, you could in theory do what you are suggesting because you will do your AF, '07, BEFORE, the Winter Semis which will be in '08.
The fact that you win and therefore qualify for the AF Finals has no bearing on what you do after that. I.e. Once you've qualified from a semi/regional/AF they can't take it away from you.

What you can't do is, as you're aware, do the Winter or Summer regional at a level AND THEN do the AF at that level or below IN THE SAME YEAR.

Hope that makes sense! The rules ARE complicated aren't they?!

Thats fine to do.

Was this question sparked off by my pm to you?

Bananaman is absolutely right which is why I suggested you do the elementary AF if you've got the scores. If you go to Patchetts for the AF I might end up judging you though!!!

Yes!! Jlav!!LOL!!! I was completely confused by this...... having a derrrr moment!! OMG judged by you!! GULP!!! Ok, having second thoughts!!!....Naw... no prob... I can take it.. I wont take any offence... constructive criticism...

You need to look at this in two parts.

First Regionals and AFs. The prohibition is for a combination which has competed in a Winter/Summer Regional to go to an AF at the same level or lower in the same calendar year. So Novice Regional Summer 07 and Elem AF Autumn 07 is fine. It is also to be encouraged as it shows progression.

Now, the more complex part. The combination qualify to go to the AF Final next April. Then they go on to qualify for and ride in the Winter Regional the following year. That's fine. Again, upward progression from AF to Regional.

Finally, combination qualify to go to the Winter Championships. Therefore they would be doing both the AF Final and the Winter Champ at the same level. That has happened in a handful of instances and always causes confusion, but is not currently against the rules.

Having said that, there is a groundswell of opinion that says that a combination good enough to get to the Winter Champs should not also do an AF Final at the same level (or lower). A solution to this could be to ask the rider to chose which they do.

It is complicated, but that is mainly because the Winter Champs and the AF Finals, though two separate competitions, are held at the same venue and at the same time. If the AF Final was earlier, no-one would even notice if the same combination did both finals and - once again - if they did it would be no more than upwards progression.

Thankyou Bananaman!! Thankyou Troi.. that was what I was thinking, so it is not against the rules, but frowned upon....just wondering IF this should happen what the rules say. There is in my opion so much time that can pass between say qualifying for AF elem. which I have, and MAY possibly do during the Now qualifying period for Winter Regionals which do not take place until nx year, although AF are in Sept. Thanks for clarifying that......... I can but hope now!!!!!!

OMG - no wonder I get confused. I don't ride/compete but to those who do, congratulations for understanding what you have to do/mustn't do and when
