I'm pretty sure i'm just being very dippy, but could do with some help.

I have just renewed my horses BD membership, he was last out in 2010.
He has 187 points, and i'm a group 6 rider.

What I cant seem to work out is I want to try and qualify him for the open novice and restricted Elem, but the rules on qualifications have slightly changed since I was last out.
It says at novice 20 points are needed, 10 from qualifiers. Does that mean 20 current points from this season/year?
Also for the Elem restricted, once you gain 199 points your out and into open. Its says you need 15 points, so i'm assuming if I gained 15 points I would be out of restricted Elem so might as well head straight for the open class?

Hope I make some sort of sense!
Thank you for any advice in advance.

With 187 points I don't think you are eligible to compete Novice, I thought the cut off was around the 124 mark (unless it's changed?)

And further more, if the Elem boundary is 199 (I need to check) then you don't have sufficient points left to qualify anyway? I might be wrong?

I think I can still compete open novice as a grade 6 or 5 rider. You are out of restricted novice with 124 points.
But yes, doing the maths no I wouldnt be able to gain enough points at restricted Elem before being out. So will go straight in at open.
Thanks

OK - a quick double check of the rulebook later!!!

Horse eligibility - with 187 points your horse is still eligible to compete Elementary, but only for a short while, horse has 12 points left before they cannot compete Elem competitively any more.

You are group 6 - This entitles you to compete Elem restricted and Novice open - however you must be riding a horse eligible for the level - therefore you definitely cannot content Novice championships. Given you need 15 points for Elem qualification I do not see how you could do this given how close to the barrier your horse currently is. If you are clever/crafty, you could however get a petplan qualification at Elem.

In terms of how the qualifications work, you need to get the number of specified qualifying points in the qualifying period (6 months) which is Dec-May for the Summers and June-Nov for the Winters. Furthermore, only points from tests scoring 64%+ (for Elem restricted anyway) count.

Does that make sense?

Unfortunately you are in that tricky inbetween place at the moment.

No, the horse is out of novice full stop at 124 points, irrespective of if the person on board is restricted (group 7/8) or open (group 6+)

You cant do novice on your horse. If you have gained less than 15 points in medium then you can do elem restricted.
If you really want to qualify for regionals then look for some shows very close together as you can go over the elem. Points and still do the classes you have entered if entries have closed.
Open and restricted sections depend on the rider group. Novice, elem, med depend on the horses points.
Why not get a couple of elem. Sheets over 62% and do a pet plan area final but you will need to be quick as not many left to run and you have to get sheets before close of entries. Hope there is one near you

Thank you Carthorse.
Sadly there aren't any petplans near by.
So if I was to attempt qualifying for Elem restricted, if I entered all of Novembers classes before I went over my points, there is a slim chance I can qualify?
Sorry to keep asking.

You will have to take care how you do it as entries only close a week before but if you go over points and have an entry already in and the entries have already closed for your next show you can do it. They will need to be very close together. We did it. Only did one class at one show. Then had two shows five days apart. Went over points at first show but was still allowed to do the second
