Hi-does anyone on here know anything about these classes (the national 6 year old qualifiers NOT the international ones)...the test is of elementary level, but u have to send off for it...does anyone know what types of movements r in it? is it just like an elementary test for 6 years old or is it harder? i know for the international young horse qualifiers there are changes..that sounds way too hard!

but i wondered if the national ones r slightly easier.

I thought that there were changes for the six year olds but maybe I am just thinking of the International classes! Other than that shoulder in and leg yield, think some half pass and simple changes as well as medium trot and canter!

No, there are changes in both national and international 6 yr old classes now - unfortunately. They are closest to medium (with changes, but not as difficult as an AM test) in my opinion.

Our horse did them last year. They are in a large arena, and have elementary movements in - no half passes or changes (those were in the international class equivalent). Quite nice tests, not too many quick transitions, suitable for young horses if they are working at that level. It is marked slightly differently than normal classes - not on each movement, but marks for walk, trot, canter, way of going and general impression.

thanks so much scs, i didnt think there were changes in the national ones, i knew they were in the international ones and i thought if the national one is of an elementary standard there is no way there should be changes! that is a relief! do u have to come placed to qualify? and also do u know the difference between the sheerwater national qualifiers and the rhinegold ones or is one international and one national?
thanks,
kate

tophorse r u sure that is right for the national 6 year old class...r u not thinking of the international ones? i just thought if it is graded elementary how can it have changes...i know the international one does...and scs says they did the national ones last year and they r elementary without changes...
hum...i dont know...thanx for ur help tho

our horse did the Rhinegold ones, which can be either national or international - I don't know exactly what is in the Sheerwater ones, so not sure how they differ. He had to come in top 3 to qualify for finals at Hickstead (actually, he qualified for national and international, but didnt go to the finals as didnt really fit for his rider, but nice to know he qualified!). The competition was pretty strong - and not surprisingly a lot more entries in the national than international classes. It was interesting though, as top riders and trainers were judging, and were viewing the horse's potential as a future dressage horse as well as performance of actual movements. Good luck!

It was in the last BD mag. The tests have changed - there is no difference between national and international tests and all 6 yr olds do flying changes. I promise you!

yup, im doing it on my 6year old (wel hes 5 atm, but will be 6 in may)

theres walk to canter, simple changes, 5 loop serpentine in trot, 10m circles in trot and canter, two medium canters on both reins up the long sides, two medium trots across the diagonal, rein back 4 strides.

ETS - i dont know where everyone is getting the flying changes and shoulder in stuff from!! im sat here looking at the test right now!! its called the elementary 6yr old test, but its for the shearwaters and badminton young horse etc. For international you have changes (i think).

Really! I must be totally confused. I want to do the tests on my (soon to be) 6 yr old as well but was put off as I thought there was half pass and changes. I think changes etc. are in the FEI standard tests, and the Elementary 6 yr old test is different? Dunno. Now v. confuzzled.

this is where I got confused - quote from new rulebook:
For the Championships:
The 4, 5 and 6 year old National levels will use the same tests as for the qualifiers.
5 yr International/FEI level will use the FEI Finale Test for 5 yr FEI YHF5 2004
6 yr International/FEI level will use the FEI Finale Test for 6 yr FEI YHF6 2004
Flying changes will be ridden as directed on the test sheets for FEI 6 year old
semis and Championships.

But this only relates to the Qualifiers for the Potential International, not the Shearwater or Badminton etc.

Thanks P_G!

hi everyone-thanks so much for all ur help. just to clarify i have been able to look at the test and as PG said and scs there are NO FLYING CHANGES IN NATIONAL 6 YEAR OLD CLASSES. The test is of elemenatry standard. only the international ones have changes.
hope not too much confusion was caused..
thanks again everyone.
