I'm riding this in a competition soon. It's making me regret breaking my 'no short arena tests' rule :(

1) Can I really transition trot to canter anywhere at all along the short side? I have watched some Youtube tests- some transition straight after the medium trot, some wait until exiting the 2nd corner. Is there a better place to make the transition, from a judges POV? Or does it just depend on what suits your horse/ what ever the fancy takes you?

2) F and K are 6m from the short side. How are you supposed to do a 10m diameter 1/2 circle starting at F/K?

Yes if it’s between letters the transition can be anywhere but you are best to wait til the horse has come back from its medium trot so you can show a clean balanced transition.

A 10 m circle is 10 m in diameter so start the circle at the letter and that will be the edge of the circle so you basically carry on round the circle from say f further up the school for 5m and half circle back to G then continue round the next half circle and as you continue round the circle it will bring you back almost to the short side track which is the 5 m before the letter f again completing the whole circle at f

Have a look at some diagrams

I haven't done that particular test but for long arena's I find the diagrams are really helpful.
It's short arena, which I normally avoid, which is whyI've never ridden it. I will see if I can download the diagram - I always learn best from the text only versions , but the diagram might be a good idea for this one!

I think this is what has confused me. In my head a 10m diameter circle should be 10m across everywhere, and if it starts at F, you only have 6m to the end, although you do have 10m to the centre line. So I guess you do 5m from F, so not quite to the short side, to do a half circle, then straight line back to B.

Exactly this, it's a semi circle from F to G so you only need 5 meters after F. The circle is 10m across everywhere but you're only doing half of it, it will still be 10m at the diameter (from F to G). It will make sense when ride it
