Am I right in thinking that you have to get over 60% twice at one level to qualify? Forgive me if I am being stupid here but doesn't that mean that loads of people would be there. I'm not sure I really understand this.

Yes, two sheets at 60% or more at one level qualify you for the Area Festival.

However, there are a lot more AFs than there are Regionals/Semis so people could be more spread out, although you can compete at more than one AF as long as you have sheets for each AF.

You cannot compete in the Regionals/Semis AND the AF at the same level in the same year, so most that have qualified for Regionals will go there instead, often opting to do Reg at one level and AF at the next level up.

As always, some venues are busier than others..........sometimes the class has to be split and another there were only about 10 entries.

Aha thank you Bananaman, didn't know about not being able to do regionals and AF at the same level that makes more sense now, think I'll aim for the AF's then as I doubt I will ever be winning classes!

I thought qualifying for regionals at a particular level automatically disqualified you from AF at that level.

No a rule change, 2005 I think, allows you to choose.
It is now COMPETING at Reg/Semi which disqualifies you from AF at same level in the same year.

I'm not sure I agree with it mind, as I thought that the AFs were for those unable to qualify for the Regionals.

Thanks for that. You can tell I'm not the dressage diva of the family
Have to agree with you. Giving the choice does seem to allow the pot hunters in and negate the reason for the AF's

Providing your AF qualifying sheets are from 2007, then you can choose which to do.
In other words, you can't use 2006 sheets for the 2007 AFs.

It used to be that they had to be within 12 months but yet another rule change!

yup, it is 60% - just 2 sheets needed. the whole point is to attract lots of people. i did the ones at Patchetts 3 years running and every year the Novice Restricted was split into 2 sections of 30 and 2 lots of placings and 2 lots of people got to go to the finals - better than havign 60 in one class!!!
