Am i correct in understanding that at all levels from 1st November 2007 the points limit at each is increasing by 50 points? (Sorry if this has been discussed before!)

Personally i think its a good thing as i understand its being introduced to stop horses being pushed too hard when they arent ready.

One other thing i read was that Open/Restricted sections are staying and we arent swapping to amateur/professional. I actually like competing against professionals as i feel when you actually beat one of them its a great sense of achievement. I know its annoying when you get the same professionals out and winning at every venue in your area tho - we have a few near me and it does get on my nerves a bit.

I cant remember now where I read it but yes thats how I interpretted (sp?) it. So you'l now have to have 87 before you're out of prelim and 124 before your out of Novice.
I also understand that as they're now not introducing amateur / professional sections you have a 14 point buffer before your forced into Open. That I think is good personally as I have won a point at elementary so have to compete in Open Novices and cant do Prelim Q's.
I think these new rules are a good move

ah, thank you for that! yes, 87 wouldve been far too much for people to still be competing at Prelim level with.

I knew about the 'buffer' thing. I think thats a good idea aswell - hopefully all these changes are going to make it much better!

(and now i can compete Blossy again at elementary if i really wanted too after shes foaled next year

Its from 1 DECEMBER not November I believe. Also if you want to 'down grade' (ie we will go from Elem back to Nov Rest) you have to write and ask to do this.

Great idea tho. Means Gen can go back to Novice for a little longer.

Yes - Folara is correct - effective from 1 December - ie when the 2008 Rule Book comes into force.

The upper level for Prelim will be increased by 12 points from 37 to 49. All other grades will be increased by 50 points, so Novice from 74 to 124.

There will be a "buffer zone" of 14 points for riders to gain experience at the next level before having to ride as Open at the level below. So a rider who ias only gained 3 points at Elementary may continue to ride at Restricted Novice.

Riders who fulfil the criteria may apply to have their rider group changed, but note that the points limit only applies to one level above. If you have 6 points at Elementary and 4 points at Medium, you can only apply to go back to ride at Restricted Elem, NOT Restricted Novice - the points are not cumulative across levels. The automatic "promotion" of those who are well placed with a good percentage at the Winters/Nationals will remain.

Riders do not have to make any application to compete a horse at a lower level due to the change of points - just make sure that your horse is indeed eligible as of 1 December.

For those riders who want to drop back a group, you must apply to the office so your eligibility can be checked and rider group changed on the computer. Please don't do this before 1 December as the application will have to be held until all results are in from venues for the preceding period so that the office knows that a rider's record is fully up to date.

Is it really changing? I've eased off competing one of the horses so as not to get out of prelim as I want to compete my youngster and qualify him for regionals next year. That'll be good cos it doesn't take long before you're out of prelim!
