Hi folks, quick BD question(s). Can someone else compete your horse and you take over the ride with the qualifications that they may have got?

Also, if you qualify for the regionals, how do you get through to the nationals? Is it placings, or percentages or a combination of both?

Thanks!

Yes as long as they are of the correct rider group themselves to qualify at nationals its usually first two from each class at regional then a few extra wildcards entries for those with high percentages but who didn't direclty qualif ( it is worked out on a percentage of starters in class those who actually go down centre line so from a big class it could be first three but don't know exactly until the day.

Qualifying numbers are defined by the number of people who have qualified for the regionals countrywide. Once BD know how many have qualified at each level and they know how many spaces they wish to allocate in each class at the finals at each level then they come up with a number of qualifiers per starter ratio.

So for example the number might be worked out as one in every 15 starters at Novice Restricted level so 3 combinations would go through in a class of 45-59 starters.

By using a qualifier per starter ratio it means that the venues with bigger entries have more qualifying places.

The ratio usually varies from level to level.

The percentage is also important as you have to have a score of 65% or more at the Regionals to go through to the finals so if the first 3 competitors were all below that score then none of them would go through. In that case I believe the places would be filled by higher scoring partnerships at other Regionals through the wild card system.
