BD regionals

I think they usually say one in so many go through (which varies depending on the level) - so at novice and elementary last year it was about 1 in 11, and more in the medium - so somewhere like Scotland with smaller classes might only be 2 in a class - although obviously some more may get through on wild cards if they have good enough scores.

Addington is the only one close to me, but it is still much further then I would normally travel to shows. I'm actually considering hiring a lorry for a couple of days because I don't know if I am happy to take my boy down the M40 in a trailer and 4X4!

Hiya Carthorse, if you have a look at the results on Patchetts and The College you will see how many in the class and how many went through. It is based on numbers in class as to how many go through, say 23-31 first 2 go through, 31- 42 first 3 go through, but they must be over a certain score too, for instance say you came second on 60%, you may not qualify if your score is not high enough, ie. qualifying score. Wild cards are then allocated to the highest scoring throughout the whole 6 areas, so if you are lucky and have an area where there were high scores but came 5th, you may be in for a chance of qualifying!!! Hope that makes sense!!

The Winters are a relatively new championship. Not so very long ago I think there were only two 'semi finals', North and South, then as their popularity grew so did the need for more 'semis'.
The dates were also different before........I have a record of being at the Winter Championships on JUNE 11th!

Just to throw a spanner in the works...
Patchetts is my nearest venue but technically the new laws on emissions will be in force and if you have a lorry older that an 01 plate which has not been converted then you won't be allowed inside the M25 so than means we will have to drive to Addington which is the next nearest but twice the distance in terms of money and time.
Not sure how the powers that be can justify that - our carbon footprint will be massive!

... what about if you live in Wales or Cornwall?

[/ QUOTE ]

If you live in Wales you either a) travel to England, b) qualify and don't go!

To be honest it really doesn't seem worth it - driving all the way to Addington for one music class is a bit daft.

That is supposing Patrick is back in work by then of course.

How is he? Any better
Your welcome to come visit us Diva loves the riding school life

Between me, OH and sis she doesn't know whether she is coming or going!
I know what you mean a long drive for one class. Still great to go though

He is slightly better, lame coming out of the stable but strangely sound going back in when there is food in there waiting for him!

His back legs have gone down now he is bandaged and he looks more comfortable all round. I still don't know what to do about the breathing problem though but I guess I look at that when he is sound and laminitis free again. I'd love to come and ride Diva sometime that would be fab!!

Really, OH's dad was sure that because it was inside the M25 we wouldn't be able to go.
Can't wait to get one over on him tonight

Let me know when you fancy coming for a visit.
Hope Patrick is feeling better soon. Hils turned into a hat rack this summer because I was so worried about him getting laminitis after his steroid injections for his back.
It is the lesser of two evils though - he stayed sound but looked like an advert for the ILPH. We didn't dare ride him till he had built up and put some weight on!

Freestyler's explanation above of the proportional qualification is correct. To add to that, there are a set number of places at the Winter Championships, so the proportions are worked out once the number of qualifiers for each class is known. That is why there will be a variation between classes. If there are a large number of horses qualified, the proportion will be smaller than the classes where there are fewer qualified. All qualifications are dependent on a minimum score of 65%.

As Bananamann says, originally there were just the two Winter Semis. Then that expanded to 4, then 5 and this year a 6th was added.

Re Patchetts - no, they are not within the low emissions zone. If they had been they wouldn't have been able to run the Regionals as BD could not put members in the position of having to pay £200 to get an older lorry there. Just make sure you don't miss the turning at the roundabout though as you'll end up in it the zone very quickly if you do!

Normally more riders in the open section qualify for nationals than in the restricted. Depends on amount of entries in the class on how many go through. It normally says on the results board at our regional. Also, there will be wild cards given to some who get very high percentages and just miss out.
