After Regionals didn't go entirely to plan I was keen to get Genie out and competing again with the simple aim of having fun and building my confidence in my ability to ride her. So I entered Mount Ballan last Saturday, all rather last minute, and decided to do the P13SQ and the N28S in the Training section to start trying to get our Novice sheets for Petplans.
I got lucky with a later time (nice to have the first test at 11.30!) and so myself, Mum, Bradley & G-I-T (14 year old Groom-In-Training who came to Addington with us) piled into the lorry on Saturday morning and headed over to Wales. Had fun finding a place to park (downside of a later time) and also found that we were running late. Got her ready quite quickly with the help of G-I-T and jumped on the pony and headed off to warm up.
Warm up she was great, seemed really on-side - as some of you may remember her attitude can be an issue. She doesn't do anything nasty or dangerous, you just have to 'discuss' everything. The lovely PapaFrita met us there armed with camera! She came to visit a few weeks ago and rode Genie and it was lovely to see her again. However G-I-T was under strict instructions not to leave her unattended with Genie in case my pony found herself on her way to Argentina!
Pootled in and did the test, was really pleased with her. She dropped me in the walk and went ploddy but other than that it was nice and obedient. To me she felt better at Regionals, but on the whole I was rather chuffed.
Headed over to get the scores and mine wasn't up despite being right at the end of the class (big class as well!). Then I realised the test sheets had been released and were inside. Tried to find mine and was very pleasantly surprised to find a rosette attached to it! The fabulous pony had scored 70.41% and we came 4th! Hello nice points towards Summer Regionals.
We had over 2 hours between our tests, so a leisurely lunch was had by all!
Unfortunately G was not so on-side when she came off the lorry for the Novice. It wasn't a fab test and I was pleased to get 62.5% (It was more than I felt we deserved!) Glad to be able to use it towards Petplans at least and it was good experience for me to ride her through a Novice test when she's being a witch!
PapaFrita took some most wonderful photos of her. She could be a bit rounder in the medium trot (both taken from the warmup) and she needs to give with her lower neck more, but as the only real comment from regionals was 'needs more spring in the trot', I am quite pleased!!!
