Went off today to what might be the last competition of the year.

I was hoping to ride 2 nice tests and get decent scores. Well the day didnt go too well.

I arrived to see that there were 3 people in my first class, 1 in each section, and 2 people in my second test, one in each section. At least I will go home with 2 red rosettes, or so I thought.

Got on Gin and warmed her up, she was feeling good and relaxed so I went down to do my first test. We went down the centre line, halted and Gin put her tongue over the bit

usually she can get it back under so carried on with my test. A couple of movements later she was still fidgety and so I stopped when passing the judges box. The writer came out and took off my flash strap and put Gins tongue back where it should be. Judge then said she had to mark me H/C because of what happened. There went my red rosette.

Gin settles and did the rest of her test.

Went back into warm up and my boots were rubbing my ankle. I decided to go down for my test early to get it over with. Started off the test, minus the flash, and Gin was settled and soft through her back. Halted and reined back and back over went the tongue.

Did the first canter with her tongue over the bit but then she put it back under once we walked to finish the test.

Jumped off Gin to find I had sat on an insect

My breeches have so many stains on them now, they really need a good wash.

Went to check scores to find everyone thought they had riden a bad first test. I got 61.something% and was second in the first test. I was expecting a really bad mark due to the tongue incident. Second test I ended up with 61.25% which I thought was going to be higher.

I dont understand how I can ride half a test with her tongue over the bit and another good test and end up on the same score.

The winner had 69% and the horse was lovely. At least I got a red rosette.

It wasnt all bad. At one point she wouldnt go past the judges hut without a battle but today she didnt even look. She was great with the other horses in the warm up too.

Im trying to upload the vids but photobucket is so slow. I will post them as they come.

She looks absolutely fantastic in your warm up...

Hannah has a habit of slipping her tongue over the bit. The best thing I ever did was buy a high ported Myler snaffle. I know you can't compete BD in it, but god it made such a difference to Hannah. Because it was so uncomfortable for her to put it over in the high port when I was schooling at home, she stopped doing it in her competitons when I put her in the Comfort Snaffle. I now ride her in a KK, and touch wood she has not done it since, but if she starts doing it again, the Myler High Port will go straight back in

How come it was going to be the last one of the year?

Grrr - those bloody tongues! My girl went through a phase of doing that in line-ups at shows and she can't/doesn't put it back herself so I had to surreptitiously sort it out myself!

Was it the same judge for each test? She looked really good in the warm-up and its great that she's getting braver

Grr mares, I was watching racing on the weekend and they said they often don't race them this time of the year due to hormones etc. Well sounds like it may be true, mine was a complete pratt yesterday, wouldn't go anywhere near the judges box. Was really hoping for a shot at qualifying for winters as the classes were small but no chance!!!

What a shame you had to go HC in one test but at least you can see progress by going past the judges hut, etc. Tried to look at the photobucket vid but I can't install flash

Thanks, we did the 2 elementaries.

I thought about trying her in one of those to school at home. I put her in a drop noseband as the kept opening her mouth, looking back I dont think it was the best thing to do. she has always put her tongue over the bit but always managed to get it back under, but she couldnt get it back under with the drop. Seems she has remembered that habit.

I started my new job today which is going to take up a lot of my time. Im going to have to ride on an evening with the floodlights which Gin isnt too keen on, and our arena is very spooky. Im just not sure I'll be able to keep up with her work and I dont think its fair to compete if I cant. I will see how it goes though.

Yes it was the same judge. I know I always say this but she isnt Gin's biggest fan.

I will pm you a funny story about her later on.

She has been a star this year apart from the regionals

Im really pleased with her, she has changed and grown up so much.

Ah I see... Grace wasn't sure about the floodlights last winter when I first got her, but she seemed to work through it and became pretty chilled out about them. Hopefully, this year she will remember that and be ok with them

Looking forwards to seeing the video.
