I tagged along as groom for what used to be my horse - and had a fab time. The committee so welcoming and helpful, the other competitors very friendly and truly had a great time. We stayed from Friday night to Sunday morning - competed in Prelim and Novice. Only hitch in our giddyup was spooking at A every time in the Novice test put the boy well out of the scores (still a reasonable 63 odd and some lovely comments). The prelim test was lovely lovely lovely, but annoyed that the judge commented to the rider that the horse was unlevel behind (absolutely was not) and on forehand (again, nope). She actually stood up at the end of the test to comment about the uneven steps behind which really surprised me. Either it's a soundness issue and you'd get asked to not finish the test - or you finish the test without being pulled up. Not sure what's right there? Either way, it did throw the rider a bit for the next test who was rather upset who is a very experienced jockey and would have felt it if he wasn't right. He finished 11th out of 30 odd so just out of the rosettes (with a 65 something or other I think). But despite that it was still a lovely time -even with the 8 hour journey each way!
