Wondering whether it is worth the drive North in search of some better ground for Lexi in May (she has sore feet already!!).

Does anyone know the course at Arley Hall?
Good ground?
Decent course?
Worth a 3 hour drive?

Otherwise I would welcome any suggestions for May / June (Somerford is too soon after Aston-Le-Walls, we are going there in the hope they will water the course!).

Although its only 15 mins away, we've always held off entering as we've never heard anything good about the ground. The pics on eventriders from a couple of years ago showed a fairly straight forward course, but I think the ground is either sodden or solid, with no in between, and given the way the weather is going at the moment its likely to be solid. Pulsaar loves hard ground, but I can't enter as I'm commenttating all weekend at Arley I think.

Hello, hope lovely Pulsaar is well. How has your season been?

Thanks for the tip on the ground, might think again then!

Don't mind the drive much, but it would be annoying not to be able to go XC when we get there!

Is it only horse people that spend all summer wishing for rain?

I've only done one so far, Eland. Messed up the dressage, started on a roll with all 7's dressage, then forgot I had to take a contact after the walk and dropped to all 5's LOL, then two down SJ, one I'll take blame for, the other I'm passing to P. XC was excellent though, as usual.

I know what you mean! Im always watching the weather, sad a!!

And im always wishing for sun on the event day nothing nicer then a nice sunny day eventing!! But then im wishing for rain in the week whilst im at work!!

The first year that Arley ran, the ground was ok but we had had quite a bit of wet weather and now the wood section has been taken out it will be alot better. It has only run once as it was cancelled last year but it is changing quite a bit this year I think but it was a good course if I remember rightly. My instructors the organiser and xc course designer so i'll try a get some info out of him! Also the course builder always builds good courses, solid but inviting.

Llanymynech is a fab event, one of my favorites and it was our first Novice and we got DC. Its the 9/10 June though i dont know how far away from you it is. I have all the Novice course photos from last year if you want to look at them.

Desperate for good ground to save poor pony from sore feet!! Any inside knowledge from your instructor would help (I never trust the schedule - always says the ground is good!!)

Llanymynech could be a plan - think I need to get the map out! Course pics would be good.

It would be, but not running at the right time. Looking for something in second half of May really.

IF the ground is OK this spring then I would like to see if I can qualify her for the 2 day Novice at Gt Witchingham (so she needs 2 more decent XC runs I think). However the way things are looking at the moment that might not happen!!

Well Aston although will be on the firm side, the ground wil be prepared, spiked and watered.
Its flat as well and the ground is never grazed on.
The dressage arenas are moved to a very flat field with plenty of grass coverage.

Mattingley would be a good novice to do - ground will be well perpared again, longish drive (less than tweseldown) easy run and you know you will have good going.

Also try Great Tew in June.
