BE ban coloured tack

I've posted in here before, but I can't find my post lol!

Anyway, I think so long as you look smart, why not?
You don't want to look like a rainbow vomit (One green boot, one orange, baby blue numnah, pink bridle, yellow saddle etc...)

Me and Ned did a local show in red and black, we looked pretty smart :)

Not read rest of thread yet but I so agree with this! I think in any sport it is up to you to be smart and professional and why can't colour be those things?

If it were not such a stuffy sport, perhaps it would invite more people to get involved and more support from the public. In general, the equestrian community bemoan that fact we have such little coverage on national tv but, even to me, it's so boring!

SJ & XC is about all I will sit and watch if it's on. Dressage (unless very high level with music) is practically like watching paint dry - particularly to non-horsey people.

Nothing is going to change anytime soon, as long as everyone is upholding "traditions" and keeping the whole shebang completely inaccessible to the masses, simply by being incredibly dull.

But here's what I find- it's dull because you don't understand it, or you aren't invested in it. And frankly, a jazzy outfit won't change that.

I find football endlessly dull. They could come out naked with feather headdresses and I'd still find it dull. My lack of understanding and total non-investment in the sport makes it so...

I own four numnahs, of which two are black and two are brown, so guess which camp I'm in :D

But I can't think of a good, logical reason to prevent coloured tack, certainly not XC, much as I can't stand the stuff.

I do like tradition and enjoy the dressing up part of it all. Hairnets are a godsend if you have long hair. Less so if you are rushing and forget to take it off, hence not only reeking of eau de cheval in Sainsburys, but greatly resembling Ena Sharples.

But I think the ban is idiotic. I liked the green saddle MK used. I personally would not choose a coloured bridle as tack is so horribly expensive and needs to last but have no objection to someone else using it!

Yes, you're right. Of course unless you are interested, why would you watch something.

Just to bring about some balance to my argument at least, lets think about other traditional sports like archery, rowing, golf, cricket for example. These sports equally put the emphasis on appearance but have moved with the times and cricketers no longer have to wear white, they can express themselves more freely and embrace technology be that in performance sportswear or footwear. I have started becoming more interested in golf and cricket and no longer associate it with Grandad shouting at the TV at white dressed men with white stuff on their faces. I can even tell you who's batting!

Why can't we as equestrians do the same? Why can't we express ourselves should we want to and if it does not impede performance or safety? It may not bring about the appearance of multi-million pound advertising deals but it would be just a bit more in keeping with the times.

Incidentally, I hate football but if a herd of idiots walked on pitch wearing feather headdresses and nothing else, hell, I'd watch!!! :D:D:D

You could argue that has happened to the same extent. In SJ and dressage, the jackets are deviating further and further from the traditional black/ scarlet for men, navy for women. XC, people wear all sorts and no one bats an eye at it. Technical jackets are being used more and more, and made to look like normal jackets. Things are moving on, but are keeping an eye on the past just a little bit too.

FWIW, I reckon coloured tack looks a little too try-hard. I actually dislike XC colours anywhere than on a hat, and think coloured back protectors are a waste of money. But equally, I don't think the way you look expresses individuality so don't see the point in a lot of things :D

Well, about time too! I am glad to see competitors being a little less uptight about what they wear. I am a stickler for tradition but times are changing and our establishments ought to try and embrace it if people want it. If people want to express individuality by using their appearance then that's fine. It's a well known feature of society we live in, it makes a lot of money despite what we both think. It will do little damage to BE.
