I am pleased this has come back to the calendar. It was very disappointing that it was dropped due to the fact they had to run unaffiliated events to subsidise the International competition. Yet another event in North Oxfordshire which also runs International competitions regularly runs unaffiliated events under the guise of training !!!!!

No FEI classes though, just national and earlier in the year (incase people think Barbury proper is coming back)

I’m super pleased!
It’s a great time in the calendar for it to run, far better than the usually cancelled quagmire at Cirencester (we were actually planning to trek to the east coast events rather than Ciren on our doorstep) this season, and Barbury of old, although wonderful, was often quite firm under foot.

I didn't think it would return but it's def good its back in the calendar and it could definitely run earlier in the year if you've got a chalk hill you might as well use it when others are wet.

Hopefully it is a start.

BE absolutely messed up with that decision especially in the recent and current financial climate. If a venue needs to subsidise the International competition by running unaffiliated competition on separate days then BE should just accept that. However perhaps the Barbury organisers could follow Aston-le-Walls and call them training events after all are not unaffiliated events training before people step up to BE??. ;)

Major sponsorship for FEI competitions is increasingly difficult to find, Blenheim lost a title sponsor a few years back and I do not think Barbury ever had a title sponsor.

Barbary was one of the best paid 4* in calendar when sponsored by St James place but then when they disappeared the winner got just £600 which is rubbish as not really well sponsored. Tbh it was an echo of its former self and wasn’t a well supported 4* in last few years. Blenheim had £16k to winner this year which is very good money!

Apologies having been a volunteer at Blenheim for many many years I could not do so this year. Where did the prize money come from ??

Nevertheless title sponsors and general small sponsors are disappearing from FEI competitions.

Barbury seemed well supported post Covid in 2021 https://www.britisheventing.com/results/event/a1P4I00000RHAvyUAH
