going to event run under BE rules. My horse doesnt seem to like my rubber riding boots against his side.

I dont want to fork out for a pair of leather boots or gaiter (dont know what he will think to them)

Could i get away with wearing black boots and half chaps

For an actual BE competition no you cant wear canvasy type chaps. Juniors short boots. Adults Leather gaiters or long boots.

If this is not an actual BE comp then i should imagine so. Take Both and see if people are wearing chaps and ask the steward.

Yeah, you cant wear suede type chaps. Leather gaiters you can though. I wear Ariat gaiters & jod boots all the time for BE

Although like Rachael_C says if its an unaffiliated event (but using BE rules) then MAYBE they'll let you off with it. However I know RC level dont allow them.... Id call them up and ask.

If you've already got short boots you can get gaiters quite cheaply....I had a panic for a uni comp a few months back (hadn't worn my long boots for ages and my calves had 'grown'!), ran to the local tack shop where they had some for about £20. Bearing in mind you're only going to wear them once in a while it might not matter that they're not the best quality; mine do the job fine!
