I usually ride my horse in a 3 ring Continental snaffle with a grackle nose band he can be very strong but he goes well in this. I've started doing some one day events so obviously can't use this for the dressage section. I've ridden him in a full cheek snaffle with Grackle noseband but find him very hard to control and he leans on the bit a lot. Does anyone have any other suggestions to try please? I've tried different nosebands but the grackle seems to work best.

thanks

Are you allowed a grackle in BE? I'm sure you're not for BD?

Bitwise, how about a loose ring with lozenge? I have a loose ring revolver and find my cob doesn't lean anywhere near as much as he did in his hanging cheek french link?

babybear a grackle is fine for eventing :)
If it were me I'd have a play with a loose ring or a hanging cheek. When you tried a full cheek did you use fulmer loops, only I've heard that the fulmer loops apply some poll pressure.
What mouthpiece is neddy happiest in?

My first try would be a hanging cheek with the same mouth piece as your dutch gag. Should give a very similar feel to the big snaffle ring of the gag.

Thanks for all your suggestions will have a try and see how he goes. I haven't tried the fulmer loops so they might be worth a go and I think my friend has a hanging cheek I could borrow. His 3 ring has a happy mouth single jointed mouth piece and I have it on the second ring and he goes really nicely in this now.

We've only done one dressage under BD rules which was a bit of a diaster without the Grackle! He started bronking in the middle of the test and I landed on the floor in the middle of the arena! We did manage to finish the test and get 5th though!
