BE Entries, refunds and waitlists policy - please have your say

K - can you tell me how I register in order to reply to the thread? I tried last week to no avail, and now when I click on 'sign up' at the bottom of the forum page it just opens another identical window.....

Where am I going wrong? :(

bumping.
more comments from riders really are needed on the ERA forum thread, please. I think this is one of the biggest gripes for all event riders, please say over there how you feel about refunds (or lack of them) etc...

Absolutely! No point moaning on here about losing £££s in entry fees if your horse goes lame, how unfair it is that some events don't keep Waitlists, that the system favours Pros because they can usually substitute another horse, etc etc... PLEASE have your say where it will count!

Tried to register on ERA site yesterday, & they sent me a confirmation e-mail, but when I clicked on link to confirm, it said "web page not found", & when I tried to e-mail them back ,I got an " unable to deliver" message, so not sure what to do next!!. The e-mail did mention needing to "cut & paste", but that is beyond my very limited techie knowledge!!!

The same has just happened to me, I don't know what to do next.

Mind you as my lad looks like his career is over it will be irrelevant to me anyway :(

Have you posted a link on ERA to the thread on the subject on here, might be a good idea as people are having difficulty getting on ERA.

This is now working fine, PLEASE, everyone who has had a moan about not getting entry fees back at BE, about ballotting, etc, please go over there and state your grievances. The more comments we get, the more of a cogent case we can put to BE on behalf of all members, both amateur and pro.
it is Tilly's post (titled "BE wanting you to enter earlier" at
http://www.eventridersassociationuk.org/forums/index.php?action=vthread&forum=2&topic=60
Thankyou.

I can't register either.

Can I suggest they are pointed towards the BE forum as well - I have already put one comment but have some more to add.

Hi. I've managed to log on and post reply....I don't ever post much, but here it is:

"I'm not sure of a perfect solution of how to encourage people to enter earlier, but I think that (yet again) BE are having a bit of a knee jerk reaction to events cancelling due to lack of entries. The ground in most counties around me (Oxon) is like concrete!

I have chosen to run less due to this and choose events which prepare good ground. Even so, it's been hard to keep my horse fit without hammering at home on hard ground. I am an amateur with 1 horse competing at Novice, don't have my own transport and aim to do one event approx every 3 weeks. I nearly always enter by the ballot date, but if I get balloted out or get the chance of an unexpected lift to an event, I might try to get an entry after the ballot date if they are still open. On occasions when my horse has gone lame after the ballot date, I have always left it to the last minute to withdraw, just incase he comes right, with the thought that at least I could do the dressage and sj. But recently, with high diesel costs and the added start fee, I just stay at home. With absolutely no incentive to withdraw earlier, why should I?

On the subject of ballots, in racing, ballot numbers are issued when entries are published and you can work out the chances of getting a run, or whether you need to enter elsewhere. Perhaps BE could look into a similar system and incorporate it into a waiting list? If I withdrew and my place was filled, I'd be happy with a refund, minus an admin charge, and none if the place was not filled. I never bother with a vets certificate, as the usual lameness issues are 'lost shoe or pus in foot' which wouldn't necessitate a vet, only a farrier, and by the time I paid for the cost of a vet visit and vet cert, my entry refund would be a waste of time. Again in racing, after final declarations, they operate a Self Cert or Vet Cert system. If you Self Cert, the horse cannot run within the next 7 days, so you don't need the vet but can't change your mind and divert to another race meeting just because you didn't fancy running. Its a bit more complicated than that, and the entry system is different in that you enter, pay your fee, and then declare closer to the day of the race, and I appreciate BE couldn't replicate the same system, but could look into it for inspiration if nothing else!"
