Without naming the venue (although some of you might be able to guess), there is one particular event that is rather unlucky for me.

When India was having problems with her leg I had entered there on two occasions and had to withdraw, loosing my money twice.

Now Lexi is foot sore and may not be 'right' in time to compete there. We have just passed the ballot date so they will give no refund.

Looks like they might have my cash a THIRD time!!

They publish a 'withdrawal' date a week before the event - is there actually ANY benefit to me in helping them out by making an early decision about Lex?

Not going to enter again!

Sorry to jump on this post!

But do you only get your money back if you withdraw b4 the ballot date?

I have withdrawn Mac from Nurstead and the withdrawal date is this Tuesday, so as I withdraw on Sunday will I get a refund? If not what is the point in a withdrawal date?

Is the event oversubscribed? If they fill your slot from a wait list then they have to refund your entry (minus £10 admin) if you withdraw before wd date.

HolyJane - it depends on the event - check the schedule.

This particular one has closed entries on the ballot date but has not balloted and no waiting list is shown.

Inclined to leave it to the last possible minute to withdraw (on the off-chance Lex might come right).

if you're pretty certain you won't get your money back you may aswell leave it until the last minute in the hope of a run. Give them a ring and ask how they are dealing with withdrawals now entries are closed and there was no ballot.

I would have thought a withdrawel date means that any withdrawals beforehand get refunded ??? (really must swat up on my rule book this season!)

From the schedule:

No WAITING LIST will be kept.
WITHDRAWALS by 5/6/2007 8:00:00 PM by telephoning XXXXXXXX or XXXXXXX or email XXXXXXX.
REFUND POLICY: No refunds after ballot date.

Looks like they could have my cash a THIRD time - so annoying!!!

I think there should be a BE rule about this,if they fill the place they should refund. If they don't they should give you something back because they give less prize money out. Last year the ground was hard and one event did nothing to improve the ground so a lot withdrew so they only gave prize money to 4th place even though they kept all the entry fees.I know I came 5th on my dressage score ,there were only 3 marks difference between 1st and 5th.
Good incentive to do nothing to make going better

That's terrible [Carthorse] about the prize money thing. I think it's so wrong that events reduce the amount of prize money/prizes given depending on entries, as the rest of the competitors have entered and paid in good faith. I think competitors should have to pay a reduced entry fee if the prize fund has been lessened.
