My farrier doesnt stand any messing but practically had a hard time shoeing my old horse as he was just so stiff ( the horse not my farrier lol!!) I was eternally grateful for his patience! My new mare is a different kettle of fish and i wonder if she will ever behave to be shod??
my farrier has a technique where he grabs a piece of skin on her chest and twists it (ouch) but its pretty effective and it just looks like he is pushing her back, much better than belting a horse, not only is it unprofessional it just makes matters worse!

my farrier is never rough with mine even when the youngsters are getting quite hairy!

i discipline them as and when i feel it is appropriate with as much/little force as i deem required. farrier is more than happy with that arrangement as i pay him to doe their feet, not get ar$ey with them.

he knows if they are naughty i will straighten them out- it does annoy me when people's horses are pulling the farrier all over the yard and they don't ever reprimand it! his job is physical enough without the horse being naughty.

Would not bother me, if horse deserved it and was being naughty.

Hell, i shout jab and elbow Blue at times if he is being rude! He'd have no manners otherwise

G is good for the farrier, a mild fidget at times but never naughty. I'm sure some of this is to do with the farrier though. He chatters away to G, won't take any crap from him but I trust him not to do more than elbow/growl at him.

I did change farriers after a groom told me she saw a farrier lay into G because he picked up a leg whilst he was trying to remove a boot (I couldn't be there and the groom was meant to take them off but nevermind). I had no hard evidence it happened but I won't take a chance.

I struggle to worm my horse because of the actions of people at a previous yard - i'm not risking him becoming a problem to shoe!
