We have entered Aston le Walls towards the end of the month. I have just looked at the section list and there are 47 in our section! Is this a record for a grassroots section? I guess we will be there all day and all night unless they get some withdrawals. :( :(

Bede events - who do Shelford, Oasby, Belton plus others started doing sections of about 20 to 25 so people aren't hanging around for ages. In a section of nearly 50 you can do your dressage at 8am, sj 40 mins later and XC another 40 mins later so be finished by 10.00 ish then have to wait around til 3pm for full results - the "half" section idea means that you would only need to wait till 12.30 for results (assuming they get them out efficiently and do the prize giving as soon as results are up) Obviously fewer would qualify for regional finals as it would be pro rata but it saves a heck of a lot of waiting about and means that more people turn up for prize giving which I think is important for the sponsors. There is nothing worse than a prize giving for 10 prizes with only 3 or 4 attending. It is rude of us riders but then again who wants to wait around for 4 hours after they have finished to collect a rosette when they have other horses to exercise at home and they have had an early start

Totally agree Cyclops, I secretary for a number of events and it is a huge issue having so few turn up for prizegiving. I am really not impressed as we are quite early in the section and have couple of hours journey home so won't want to hang about for hours.

chrisheath1: yes, we are entered for the 90. We have a roan pony, come and say hi if you are passing!

They have done the section lists early so they will be larger to allow for withdrawals. It was the same last year, by the day there were not more than 40 in our section which had started out at nearer 50.

I think you will find it is a ploy to get around the refund rule as they can keep up the section numbers without having to replace .We all know ALW have always been keen to give refunds im afraid,I think other events will also soon start doing this

I did notice that they charge late entry surcharge immediately after ballot date, others allow another week or so!
