Just wondering if anyone knows the answer to this query...

I normally renew my BE membership around April time as this is near to the beginning of the season and I only have one horse that I compete, so it seems to make sense to wait until nearer the season beginning in case of injury etc. Also with Uni etc he sometimes isn't fit enough to start right at the beginning of the season (though it's my intention this year that he will be).

I have had a letter and email in the past two days saying I will need to renew my membership with immediate effect otherwise any entries I make may not be accepted... (Obv I wouldn't be making any entries until I renewed my membership anyway).

Are they just trying to encourage people to renew earlier in the year?? I know there have been a few changes re direct debits etc etc but I wasn't aware that there was a renewal window of any sort???

Thanks

I may also be entirely wrong, but I believe if you don't join before your membership is due, you then become a "lapsed member". If you then joined say even only a week late you have to pay the full price of a new member, even though you aren't. Something like that.....

I don't understand it either I have the same letter and what I don't get is whether the 2 months is from the end or the beginnning of the month it is due. I also don't understand why me and my brother have different months on our memberhsip cards from last year when I renewed them on exactly the same day. I too was planning on renewing when I entered this year.

ETA: My renewal date on the BE site says 1 Jan so assume I have to renew by 1 March which is a pain as after wasting ££££ last year on entries etc I was planning on entering and renewing at the very last opportunity!

Oh Jeez - I don't want to lapse that would be a pain... thanks for the info so far. I guess I'll probably just renew now just in case it lapses me... looks like the dressage saddle fund is going to take an earlier than precendented hit!!! ;)

H_B I think if you lapse it's just a £10 fine rather than going through the whole process again, I am trying to weigh up whether to pay the £10 and renew later then at least I know I have a horse entered with 4 working legs!!

I would double-check but that is definitely what my letter says and when I log into my account my horse who wasn't registered last season is still there just to renew quickly and easily :).

i think that because of the direct debit thing from next year this year you can pay according to how many months needed to get you to Jan 2012 in 3 months blocks so therefore your renewal date will prob show as either 1/1/11, 1/4/11 (as mine does), 1/7/11 or 1/10/11 (highly unlikely ;) ). I'm rather hoping that means I only have to pay 3/4 of the membership fee this year which will be nice ;) :p

That is only if you wish to pay next years by DD in four installments ie jan/feb/mar /april for which you will have to pay an admin fee.Otherwise you pay the same fee and renew on the same date but do remember if you renew within the 2 month renewal window your membership still runs from the original renewal date and not the date you renew on.
If you renew at the latest opportunity and use the online DD option because of the delays in the system setting up DDs you will buy yourself some more time with the money in the bank account and save a bit as well (but you didnt here that from me).

.... So as I only intend to pay annual membership this year (and probably next year), I guess I just carry on as usual (and if I have to pay £10 extra at the time then I'll just suffer it!)!
