I was rather surprised at Richmond as I saw someone warming up for dressage with something that attached to the girth before splitting into two and clipping onto the bit rings on either side which I thought couldn't be legal but nobody said anything and as I was uncertain I didn't either. So what is it and can you use it?

Also am I write in thinking that a bit with a revolving lozenge would be classed as a bit with a standard lozenge?

Thanks in advance

Um, the thing clipped to the bit sounds dodgy - maybe too new / odd to be specified in the rule book and therefore falls into the 'grey' area.

The rule book is fairly clear about the use of most standard 'gadgets'.

Re. the lozenge thing, I would assume that is OK - as you say, probably classed as a standard lozenge. Can't imagine a dressage judge ever looking inside your horses mouth to be honest.

Sounds like a Harbridge maybe??

Not a clue if it's legal to use one when you're warming up at BE though.

Are you sure it wasn't a pro taking a baby out to get used to atmosphere?

No it was a young girl no older than 15 in the Intro and she had a number on.

Not sure how much supervision there is of the collecting ring. Too far away for the dressage judges to see - so compliance with the rules rather depends on the astuteness (and knowledge ) of the stewards and sundry onlookers - who probably don't want to get 'involved'. Interesting point.
