In case anyone has not seen on the BE website they are retagging all hats this year replacing the yellow tags with green ones they advise allowing extra time especially at early season events for this. I hope they are going to be quicker than when they did mine initially- they took it off somewhere away from the secretary's tent and didn't come back for fifteen minutes theres going to be some interesting queues if it's going to take that long  Going to double check that my label is still legible as well as it also says being yellow tagged is not enough they will check the label again.

I know Stafford are having hat taggers available the day before tge competition starts. They are encouraging competitors to take their hats if they are walking the course the day before.
A great idea & an idea other early events could do well to copy.

Thanks everyone at least if they were doing new ones last year (shows how observant I am I never noticed anyone with a green tag last year!) some people will already have it done so will not need to do everyone. I'm planning on course walking at Oasby on Friday before competing sat so might take it with me and see if they will do it then. I can hang about ages on Friday but worried about ending up in a huge queue on sat with my dressage time ticking nearer will obviously allow extra time but how much extra do you allow.

Just a note to all even though your hat may have had a yellow tag for years & shows the correct number, your hat must display the British Kitemark Symbol or they won't tag it with a green tag.

Seriously, the british kitemark?!! Why do they allow european, Oz and Nz hats in the rulebook then? Hope my uvex will be ok as its. EN1384. I do have a J3 which is fine. funily enough my old hat that I banged my head in (twice!) Has a green tag! Doh!

Sorry to half hijack.......
Im looking to do BE80 on a ticket this year do i have to have this? Also are fixed peaks allowed in SJ?

Yes, and yes :D
Fixed peaks not allowed XC. When you go to pick up your number from the secretary, take your dressage/sj/xc hats with you to get tagged (and check they are the correct standard first!)

Mbronze I thought it might be to encourage riders who have ridden with the same hat for years & years to think about getting them changed.

There's a bit of misinformation in this thread so here is the C & P from the BE rulebook.

British – All PAS 015, BSEN1384 Provided they are BSI kitemarked
European – En1384 or SEI
American – All SEI ASTM 95, ASTM F1163 (2004) and SNELL E2001
Australian & New Zealand – all AS/NZs 3838 (2003).

I think they are retagging as some of that hats that have a yellow tag on are quite old......we've seen a couple when tagging for BRC that have a yellow tag, but are ancient & not up to current standards !

Zebedee - Further to your post above, I thought EN1384 weren't allowed unless they were British kitemarked? Which excludes a lot of the major foreign brands.

My Casco is EN1384 but I thought I couldn't wear it for BE, as BRC refused to tag it at areas because it didn't have a British kitemark.

Or have I got the wrong end of the stick?

Thanks KatB - I thought not but had a glimmer of hope reading this thread!

My Casco is brown so I think it would be against BE rules anyway - will have to keep it for BS only and stick to the HS1 for BE SJ until I find a hat I like/can afford that is within the rules.

Sorry - it's the way the info has C + P'd - it's in table format with a curly bracket in the BE rulebook. It is available online, so if in doubt pop on there and have a look but you and SK are right re the Kitemark requirement.

Do you reckon it would be possible to get hat tagged at event I am not riding at? Just I'm going to spectate at Isleham this weekend and competing Great Witch in 3 weeks time - thought I might save some hassle on the day and get it done and out of the way?!

Yes they should do

How can they allow a european hat with EN1384 and no kitemark but not a british EN1384 with no kitemark? So confused. I thought EN1384 was ok? B words! Anyone know if a uvex is ok?

I will be embarrassed at having to hand my stinky disgusting hat over for checking. Person will need to wear rubber gloves and a nose peg ;)
