I was at Gt. Witchingham on Sunday and in my class alone I watched two riders have two fences down but only given one down by the judge. They were on competitive dressage scores so this did effect the placings.

So I have two questions:

Would you say anything if you saw this?
If it happended to you - would you admit to the extra faults.

It has never happened to me BE but I think I would admit it, would hate to "win" a frilly on false pretenses. Has happened to me SJ and I did go and tell the judges then.

Finally a plea to all SJ judges - I know you give your time up and I really appreciate that, I too have volunteered, but please can you pay attention, it costs a lot to event and it is a shame to lose a place to a mistake.

This happened to my daughter, she has 1 down, was given a clear. We told the organisers and were told judges decision is final. She got placed as a result. Still feel guilty now but did all we could at the time.

Really!!!! At least you did own up, I am shocked that they ignored you though.

Hopefully another time it will work in my favour......

It happened to me non-BE showjumping. I immediately told the judge when it was announced as clear, but they said I'd definitely gone clear (video evidence shows otherwise) - I ended up coming 2nd after the JO. No money it but still I felt a bit awkward. Especially in front of the other competitors.

I've seen people miss out jumps and get a CR didn't the judges wonder why they were 10 seconds faster than everyone else!?

I have told judges before when people have had fences down sometimes they listen sometimes they don't.

It happens all over, I BS and a lady who had quite clearly won a JO from last to go was eliminated for taking the wrong course, she hadn't, everyone watching were happy to back her up, judges decision was final, result stood. rider was gutted but nothing she or anyone else could do

Non BE showjumping, several four faulters were placed above my son (who they even announced as clear). A young lady with the fastest four faults went in and colleted "his" rosette came out and gave him the rosette - some very nice and honest people out there thankfully

Happened to the daughter BS. The very efficient lad in the ring had put up the knocked fence before the judge had noticed it had fallen. I did go & tell the judge who had to radio the lad to ask which fence he had picked up!

BS I missed out on a qualification to HOYS once in a similar way. We complained paid the £20 to submit the complaint had witnesses including the 'winner' of the class. Decision stood.

Not had the chance again since :(

I was at a unaffiliated sj comp, i'd won the previous class and got into the jump off for the next one. Unfortunately I knocked the first jump down but judges obviously didn't notice, they announced me as the winner but I said how can I of won when I knocked a jump down, they thanked me for my honesty and placed me in 4th where I should of been. I like getting a rosette but not by deception/cheating.
At another local show results were read out I didn't quite hear whether I was 5th or 6th, pulled up to get my rosette i could see the girl next to me was like thinking I was in wrong place but she didn't say anything and took my rosette instead but nevermind if she gets a thrill about being a place higher from where she should be then whatever.
:)

Yes, I had one down in a BE class and was announced clear. I told the seccy, who pulled out my score card and showed me where the judges had ticked all the fences clear. So I was given a clear....

As a judge who has spent many hours judging at BE events, I can say we do 'pay attention'...however, it can be very easy to miss a fence,..often we cant see all the jumps easily from the box, we are being distracted by competitors coming in and asking questions, the writer is writing the name on the sheet of the next horse which happens to be the worlds longest name, scorers are phoning the SJ box for the scores....I could go on.

No one is perfect, and when you have spent 9 hours judging with barely a toilet break, missing a fence does happen! (obviously not on my watch...;) )
