Just got the new rulebook and noticed there's no longer a big "grace" period on the times at 80/90/100. It's now only 15 seconds faster then the optimum before you start racking up penalties. I assume they're trying to stop excessively fast riding but I didn't think the "too fast" time was excessively fast if your horse was confident at that level or ready to move up, it's not like there are many technical questions at that level that you need to take a big check for.
Glad I'm not eventing my mare anymore, her natural rhythm was about 500m/min and slowing her down just resulted in resistance and missed strides.
What do people think? Combined with the stopwatch trial will there be some pulling up after the final fence to avoid too fast penalties?
