BE - XC issues help..

My part bred Welsh has the same suspicions about different coloured bits of ground. He spooks at different coloured grass as well. Yesterday he nearly tanked me off the XC course because they'd laid a bit of carpet and woodchip over the road crossing and obviously that was going to kill him. Last week he nearly jumped me off because he jinxed over a fence when he spotted they'd put some different coloured sand on the landing side. He spends the entire XC round spooking at the other fences on course whilst jumping his own fine. If he wasn't so good I would despair of him but he's off to Badminton Grassroots next week so there is hope for all the daft, spooky Welsh ones!

Ah this gives me good thoughts :)! Great to hear your off to Badminton!! Well done! He's so soooo much potential that it worth it! I'm really excited for his future I just know that he's going to take longer than some! but tbh I know when he does get there is dressage and jump are better than most! x

Fab :D Not that I'm partial to a ginger ;).

I do think if I were better and worked more on it I could have sorted Frank out (he's 22 now) he is v. good at the stop miles away and the stop at the last minute :rolleyes3:. A pro took the ride on him for a couple of hunter trials and he managed to surprise her with a stop at the first last minute but was not getting away with that again!

To be fair I do trust him to use his ground awareness a lot of the time - we do a lot of off road hacking and if he breaks down a gait it is usually for a reason - boggy or stoney (he has no shoes now). Tends not to be the case hunting though :rolleyes3:.

He's definitely been more fab than annoying over the last 10 years.

But is currently in the bad books for getting his foot stuck in my riding hat this morning

I know what you mean the days when he goes right far outway the bad days!!!

Gingers are 100% the best! I'm making it my mission this year to work on the XC so you'll have to make sure I've worked on it by the end of the year!!!
