BE100 HIGHCLERE - Oh dear... :(

SC I took him to WWEC combined training and a local unaff sj for 3 rounds in a comp atmosphere, and twice schooling before this and he was great in the snaffle but the minute I walked into that arena he just became unrideable he chraged through the bridle and ran away. I thought he was over bitted in the pelham and now I think he's under bitted in the snaffle but it's so hard to find the right bit when you can't do a dry run with all the comp atmosphere etc.... hopefully a week at Rosie's and she will have a clearer idea of what is best...

yeah I guess you live and learn having slept on it now I think I should have probubly R him after he tried to roll because it is so out of character, but you know when it's the next step up you don't want to not do it for not a massively obvious reason becuse you don't want to think that a part of your decision may be because you were intimidated by the bigger track etc...

I think a week at Rosie's will be good for both of us and hopefully she can take him out and compete him too as a litmus test to see if it's him, me or a bit of both....

I just looked at the results and (I know it's a huge IF) but IF we had got a DC and ended on our dressage we would have been 10th!!!!

so that's a happy thought to hold on to

I'm afraid if the tannoy and prospect of XC is not there, then you won't necessarily be on the same horse as when they are - I could do all that and more on my horse in a snaffle - as soon as you got the tannoy and XC and whistles and XC vibe about the place he'd be completely unmanagable in one!

I did find when I upped the bitting it took me a while to find the hand/leg balance - I'd been so used to him carting me about the place I wasn't using nearly enough leg and had to double the amount I used, whilst being v soft in my hand but having just enough there to point out when he was being unacceptably rude! I can school XC in a snaffle, but no chance if there is a hint of a competition atmosphere.

I'm sure a week with your trainer will help.
