I am doing BE102 in a couple of weeks and am a bit confused about how or where I should ride the 10 metre loop in movement 2 because isn't the distance between/around MXF bigger than 10m in diameter????

The test starts:-

1 A Enter at Working Trot Proceed down Centre Line Without Halting
C Track Right
2 MXF 10 Metre Loop Working Trot
FAK Working Trot
3 KXM Change the Rein...

Should I head for X from M and then perform a 10m semi about X (ie X being the top point of the semi circle)???? So set out in a straight line for X then perform a semi circle about X or does a loop mean it doens't really have to be 10m!!???!!

Hope this makes sense, finding it very difficult to describe in words!!!

Thanks!! xx

Yep, it does go to X... so as you say ride from M to X then change bend, (I'd go straight for about a stride over X) and then head for F. It's basically a stretched 5m shallow loop with three different bends ie right bend as you come off the track, left bend half way between M and X then back to right bend half way between X and F.

Make sure you do go right to X as the judge has a birds eye view if you're early or overshoot

When I have done this test I have gone from M to just before X, a couple of straight strides then to F, it's probably better described as a 10m loop in from the track.

I've struggled finding a good diagram, so this one is of a shallow loop 5m in from the track rather than 10m.

Thanks Megabeast - that's brill and helps a lot!!! Just got to keep it bendy and make sure I do a really accurate 10m loop about X. Seems more difficult than the Prelim dressage tests I've done, yet BE90 tests seem much much simpler than many of the Prelims. Anyway I suppose we can't expect the different disciplines to tie in with each other and we love a challenge!! Thanks again!

Oh thanks jumptoit!! So I'm gonna do what you've got in the diagram but exaggerate it to hit X!!?? Does it need to be more "steep" so that I hit X with a perfect 10m half circle???

You don't need to do a 10m half circle anywhere - easiest way to think of it is to turn straight from M to X in a diagonal line, then change bend at X and head straight back to F in another diagonal line. So it is the shape of a chevron. Just smooth off the edges and voila!
