Hi All

Still currently off games with troublesome plated and screwed humerus. The extra time afforded to me by my pesky injury has meant that I have signed up to do the Wobbleberry challenge on Dangerous Brian.

Since I cannot presently ride I thought I could use my time by doing some research to look for a BE80 that would suit us the most.

I had some pretty serious confidence issues before the accident but I'm guessing that very nearly twisting my own arm off won't have me dying to get back to leaving the ground.........however I have committed to doing this so it's onwards and upwards (probably quite literally with the nappy rearing horse!).

So I'm after you lovely lot's opinions on what BE80 course and set up might cause us the least amount of bother.

Brain is VERY nappy although with consistent work this does improve but he has been known to jump 4 fences perfectly, stand on end between fences, carry on jump 5 more, stand on end etc etc.

I have a complete mental block when it comes to showjumping on grass, literally I seem to make it look like I have never even sat on a horse before.

Dressage on grass is fine thankfully, I mean not good but doable.

The ones that I have pinpointed so far are;

Frickley Park
Solihull
Shelford
Brooksby
Norton Disney
Stafford

Are there any of these that people think are more/less straightforward or have any pearls of wisdom about please?

Would really appreciated people's input.

Brooksby is no more, that would probably have been your best bet.

However I wouldn't recommend Shelford or Norton, they are both quite large courses

I've only done Stafford and Solihull out of the ones you have listed. Would probably recommend Solihull, I've only done the 80 as an unaffiliated but the sj is usually on a surface and the xc is on the small size and quite straightforward.

Hi, Bob the nota cob here, I am so glad that dangerous brian is not likely to compete here down south. I too have a wobbleberry rider and I have serious doubts as to whether he really has the bottle to do this.(Its not like I actually TRIED to kill him, stuff just happened. ) I am now being made to do some nasty dressage stuff that personally I believe infringes my equine rights (principally, charging off with my nose in the air). If it wasnt for Hannah I would not be tolerating this abuse! My best advice is sponsor any other wobbleberry but mike!¬just be sure to sponsor someone!

I have been to Solihull and Shelford. Solihull is SJ on a surface, I've always found the XC to be quite full up there. The warm up is across the road from the lorry park but they cannot see it once they are out on course so it depends what exactly sets the napping off. I used to have a nappy thoroughbred and we didn't make it round there unfortunately. Shelford has SJ on grass and when I competed there you came back towards the SJ to the water and then crossed your tracks and the rest of the course was going away from everything else. The XC for the 100 was pretty full up when I did it, although they cannot see the lorry park at all from the SJ and XC. Have you considered Aston Le Walls at all? They have Dressage and Showjumping on a surface and the XC is always super straightforward!

Where are you based, Eland Lodge may have something suitable and everything except dressage is away from the lorry park and so on a surface?

I found shelford (2015, might have changed) to be quite a nappy course- not massive, quite friendly (100) but the final few jumps/combinations passed the warm up and the start box so my experienced (& residually nappy) horse had problems with that distraction- think spinning between fences, not problems with actual fences. It just depends whereabouts you tend to have napping problems, because it could be no issue. Also showjumping field was rather sloping if i remember correctly (although aren't they all!!)

I have done them all bar Norton Disney. Frickley was massive and SJ on grass so I would avoid that. Solihull was SJ on a surface and I found the XC fine. Stafford is SJ on grass and the XC is one of the smaller ones. Shelford is SJ on grass and the XC is one of the bigger ones but I like the course. Brooksby was a smaller xc but alas is no more. Like the previous poster I would suggest that you could try Eland. Unaffiliated. It is sj on a surface and a lovely xc but it is quite big.
