Can anyone tell me what beaches I can ride at *I'm in Yorkshire*
Also when you can go to the beach, and what rules there are?
Is there a website that has the information on?
I've always wanted to ride on the beach so I'm hopefully going to do it this year

ATM we have unrestricted beach riding rights - the only rules being no mad galloping. That's not a problem rule for us anyway. And you show courtesy to other beach users, and it's sensible not to keep going if a dog comes after you. Stop and face it and wait for its person to catch up. As long as the dog hasn't done anything vicious to your horse or anything other than what a curious and friendly dog unaccustomed to horses would do, please advise the owner to be nice to the dog once they catch it again. Many owners get upset and angry at their errant pooch when really, praise for 'coming here' should be given.

Be careful as the going can suddenly change from rock hard to deep in no distance at all. The tide can also be scary so don't expect bravery right away.

Avoid going when it's windy or you'll get blasted to pieces and do a proper warm up and cool down.

It's brill fun and very theraputic

I know people ride at runswick bay without any problems. You have to check the tide times though.
People ride at whitby, you access the beach via the ravine which is a track on the right before you get to the golf course. My friend rides the pony at sandsend, there are a few livery yards round there so plenty of horses go down there. It can be a bit busy on warm days. I wouldn't go anywhere near the beach huts end of the beach though, you would probably be asked to leave there.
I have seen people riding at filey. You can ride at redcar and saltburn. Saltburn has a riding school who do beach rides so that must be an open access beach. I'm not sure where you could park a horse box tho to get down to the beach, it might be worth ringing the riding school.
I haven;t seen any 'no riding' signs at any of these beaches! I have surfed at many of them. I would avoid them in the summer/school holidays, windy days and days with big swell. Surf may be a bit scary for your horse.
I think parking your trailer would be the biggest issue.

If you go to Redcar beach the route there is straightforward and theres a big car park right next to the beach, ample for a trailer or wagon. Not much in the way of facilities, there was a burger van there last time we went. All they want is that you clear up after your horse. Not the most picturesque area but it may be quieter than other more touristy beaches. We have always had a good time and from Huddersfield its taken us approx 2 1/2 hrs. Nice run there too.
