Beach riding around Essex

Hi everyone,

After a summer of hacking, sponsored rides and cross country, we have decided that our new pony adventure should be the beach!

Does anyone know any good beaches to ride on in/around Essex?

Also, does anyone know anything about times to ride etc? We would be going on a sunday

Havering Atte Bower so not near anything lol, willing to travel for a decent ride!

Shoebury East Beach opens on 1st October, check the tide times as you need to get there for just before low tide.

Just wondered if anyone is aware of any beach rides closer to braintree? On the map Tolesbury, mersea island and clacton are all close by but I am new to the area so unsure if anywhere around those is suitable for riding on the beach?

Sorry a bit off topic, but many moons ago we used to have an annual yard hack, every Boxing Day, down to Westcliff Beach, all the way along, jumping the breakwaters and ride back through Southend High Street. Approximately 30 of us. Wouldn't want to do it now!!

Don't think bravery entered into it. We were just young and mad with no thought to personal safety! But in spite of the lack of safety precautions no one ever got hurt and ponies were never sick or sorry.
