Yard has decided to go to the beach next month. There's only 5 horses. 2 of which are mine. One ill be taking to the beach too, the other will be left behind. He's rising 3 so isn't ridden. He's often left stabled when we all go for a hack, he neighs for a bit but soon submerges his head in his Haynet and forgets the others even exist.
Im a bit worried though as I've not left him alone for that long before. Has anyone done it ? I have people who can go and check on him, but I don't want him to be disturbed every hour if he's settled. Any suggestions ?

I would just give him a big net of hay and maybe a treat ball and he will be fine. Try and stay calm because if you are worried and nervous before you go he will sense this and become unsettled. Have a lovely time at the beach and don't worry about him!

I'd echo the advice above... Treatballs are ace at keeping youngsters occupied! How long do you usually hack for? could you perhaps get him used to being stabled alone for longer periods un the run up to your trip? i.e. go out for a few longer hacks?

In planning on leaving him for longer as other horse needs fittening in time for the beach so that will be good for him. Glad you have both said to leave him, wasn't sure if I was being completely irresponsible !

Yep treat ball, lickits anything like that really. I may also give a dose of calmer too if he the stressy type, if not then I wouldn't bother.
