Hi all,

I am having a bit of prob with my beagle in that she chews EVERYTHING and barks for hours!

Now, I know it sounds like boredom but she is never left by herself. Perhaps at home for the odd hour here and there. Other than that she has run of the house with me all day everyday and comes everywhere with me.

Any suggestions.

A bit of history on her: We got her in October (17 months old at the time). The day we picked her up she was due to go to a rehoming centre. She had only been with this family for a few months and another before that. Poor little soul. She was also runt of the litter.

I certainly have no intentions of rehoming her. She has a home for life but unfortunately the barking and chewing are issues I'd really like to have more control over. She does have her own toys by the way.

Any ideas? Sorry for ramble!

If she is doinf t when you leave her....you need to impliment a new routine, and maybe introduce a crate or sectioned off area of the house, to start, u will need to use the sectioned off area maybe with the use of a baby gate, for short periods, and gradually increasing, when you are in aswell as out, give her stimulating treats/kong/long lasting chews/meals...anything positive with the new area, and go back to basics to get into a routine of her feeling comfortable in her won company......starting with some execise to also stimulate her physically before leaving her in a calmer lower energy state.
Is she currently displaying the behaviour when left?
Is she always around u, when u are in the house?
What is her current routine?

Ps...it sounds like a bit of anxiety, as opposed to boredom.

imo, i would get a invisible fence system (if you can). we have one for our beagle that runs around the border of the house, you train them to it and then you can let them have full run of area so they cant get bored;you can also get one for inside the house if needed.

imo anyhoos!

its great for our dog as he is alone for 6 hours of day and instead of being cooped up inside a pen he has full roam of our orchard ( we live in an orchard

She has a pretty free rein really. During the day she just wanders round the house as she pleases. (I am house mum so always around) Like I said, she is very, very rarely left alone by herself (an hr a week at the most) and she just takes herself off to bed.) If I go out I take her with me. She seems pretty gd when left by herself.

We have stock fenced the garden so she can go in and out as she pleases. She has plenty of room to run around in.

With the barking, something sets her off. A cat might go past or something and she'll just bark and bark and bark!

With the chewing she just chew everything she finds (apart from shoes!)

She is still a baby (under 2) so I expect her to misbehave but the noise and the mess she makes is just awful!
What could bring on anxiety?
