, my mare just stood still and I went to get off her without moving my legs - and ended in a heap underneath her, it was so funny!! I ache a bit today though as she is 16.1hh!

can anyone beat that?!

I was once on my friends fat thelwell pony and it was dying to go home. So we were stood on a lane and I was holding onto it really tight so it didn't trot home and it put it's head down the graze! Cue my rolling down it's neck onto the floor!!

I've managed to go right over the top and end up on the floor on the other side while getting on.........twice. About 15 years apart on different horses but I've still done it twice!

I was watching a lesson at a riding school, and they were trotting (well, the riding school plod) over trotting poles. One of the people in the group fell off.

Over the trotting poles.

Getting ready to mount, with all my RI behind me getting ready for a hack. I go to hop on, dont swing enough, and horse moved foward and I ended up on the side of the horse with my leg over her rump. Was very embarassing, especially as I couldnt get untangled!

I've done the falling off when pony put its head down to graze - in front of my parents who then grumbled about paying good money for riding lessons when I couldn't even stay on a horse that was stood still

I almost fell off coming through a gate

Not really quite the same but felt I had post .

Worst fall I think I've had!! Pony shot through the gate and my leg got stuck behind the catch and I got dragged off towards the back before rescuing myself but promptly got off and passed out

Once got given a leg up on my newly purchased mare. OH used far more power than was needed, I landed on her neck, she objected and bucked, I flew off into the air and OH caught me - all would have looked impressive if the air hadn't have been filled with my "For F sake Andy!" screams.

First ever time I fell off was when pony put head down to graze whilst we stood still - seems a common one.

My neice took part in a PC display at County Show - did a fab job and pony behaved perfectly

. Left the main ring to walk back to the lorry pony had a shake and nice wobbled off in a heap on the floor!!

Obviously we were all laughing and said things like get up and get back on which neice duly did - not hurt at all BUT we got loads of tuts and comments from visitors to the show about how hard we were, poor little girl etc etc

I fell off twice before i even started a lesson once!! It was a PC rally (through a riding school centre). Horse could be a bit spooky and we had to mount from the wrong side. I was using a jump block to give me bit extra height, pushed off the block ...................... and it wobbled. Cue horse shooting across the school with me hanging from the side of the saddle. Quick turn left and i end up on my back on the floor. Second attempt instructor held him. Again pushed of the block, and although it didnt move this time, he still spooked. Went to jump left, realised there was someone that side, so jumped right and i went straight over the top and very nearly sat on instructor. Got on from the correct side third time and just about managed to land in the saddle and stay in place.

Used to teach a group of public shcoolboys every Thurs, if weather was bad we did stable management instead of riding. One winter's day when it was too frozen to ride they were bored with grooming and persuaded me to teach them how to get on bareback, so of course I chose a nice small pony for my demo and positioned it on the slight slope next to the muck heap so it was lower than me as an extra guarantee that I would be able spring effortlessly onto its back.

You can see where this is going can't you? Yep, one extra big leap from me took me straight over the pony head first into the muck heap! "Yes well lads, that's how NOT to do it!"

The person who taught me most of what I know about horses always used to say "Do as I say, not as I do" - he was soooo right!
