Just realised my title may be quite misleading there ?‍♀️
Cecil is almost 7 months now and I take opportunities to educate where ever I can, OH getting a takeaway was a little walk through a busy town etc
Next week there is a shoot here on the farm. It happens too be a day I’m off. Would it be any good to him? I’m not even slightly into shooting but can I use the experience to his advantage at all?
My old dog is now deaf so shoot days pre covid were a nightmare but she no longer reacts so I’m happy to leave her.
I’m not thinking of going officially so could leave at any point. They meet here at home.
I don’t know if it would be a good thing to introduce him too?
If so/if not any tips or advice? I don’t want him to be terrified like my old dog was because firstly that was pretty stressful and secondly it’s just luck
I’m off so he will hear it all alone at some point this winter.
Opinions?

I only take the dogs shooting when they are mature, or maybe a year old if I keep well away from the action.
It’s noisy (even beating you may have a back gun near you), flag cracking, dogs behaving badly, lots of people crammed on trailers.
I would take him to the ‘meet’ and let him have a look round and then leave it be.

Ok, I’ll be honest as I said I’m not into shooting but if it would have helped turn him into a well rounded chap I’d have been there.
Generally I’m out there doing horses when they start arriving and nowadays he’s with me so I guess I’ll just stick to routine.
Is there anyway I can minimise reaction to the banging? I assume the fact the mrs collie will sleep through it will help?

So far so good. We weren’t out there when everyone turned up as they arrived earlier than I’d expected and I’d popped in for coffee!
So I took him out too poo pick the fields as per usual but instead of loose I used a longline to walk through the yard which was full of cars, dogs and people. He was very good, not really phased, he had a bit of a growl at a truck full (literally) of spaniels hanging out the back. I had half expected him to yap though so was pleased with that.
Crossed over to the field past the beaters wagons (empty) stupidly ditched the lead and went down to the horses field.
I thought they’d have left by the time I was finished but they hadn’t and as I had no lead I had to kill time until they left!
He was a bit self employed back on the yard, the smells of a hundred new dogs was a bit much to deal with and listen to me ? but all in all a success.
They shoot here this afternoon so we had a peaceful morning so far ?
