. . . re the mythical heated indoor arenas of my homeland.
Unfortunately I no longer have any photos of me actually IN one as some lovely person stole my computer after I moved, but I have found you links proving their existence. I know this will make people hate me but think how I feel, having had such things and lost them! I would cheerfully kill for access to one right now. (So long as I get to pick the victim.
)
A couple of places describing their facilities but no good pics:

photo of one in the US showing the heaters clearly in the roof:

not heated but with the "sun catcher" windows many newer arenas have which make a huge difference to the inside temp:

Some also have skylights.
Lots of people also now have Coveralls or similar, the fabric covered arenas. They're supposed to be warmer but it's not been my experience. Cover is cover though!

And finally, the place I used to run, albeit under old owners and a different name. No good shots of the inside of the arena but you can see why I might miss the place!

On the upside, I no longer have to deal with avalanches of snow sliding off the roof when the building warms up (a problem in any arena) and scaring the horses senseless.
At the last place, we put heat tapes on the roof to keep it from icing up!
