What a spot - I thought I saw a horse that looked very like those pics there - was my first go at BD, with my older horse, on remembrance sunday. We aren't far from there either maybe 30mins, took Roo there for their autumn indoor show as well.

Yeah we were so thrilled when we found out his breeding - had no idea when we bough him about his dad's side so finding out royal geneve is grandad was a huge bonus to say the least.
Interesting about the pessoa - what age do you start using it? I have been putting off too much lunging as he is still growing. Oh and it took him a while to get the going round in circles thing too! Only did it for a couple of days tbh before we got on and then had to do again for vet when he got kicked, hadn't lunged for maybe 6 - 8 weeks and vet thought it was hilarious, he said we were lunging in the shape of a (broken) egg!

I started it with her at about 2 1/2 (6 months ago) i have done it about 3 times i dont actually clip it on to the bit but put it on do it up and put the part of it round her hindlegs and walk her around
with lunging its about two circuits on each rein - i havent done anything since october though and in march (just before she is 3yo) i will put a saddle on and lean over her im lucky i am rather light and then depending on how she reacts i can guage when i need to send her for breaking when she is a bit weaker or when she is a big 16.2hh and feeling brilliant !!
I used the pessoa on mine last year (when she was 4), just to help her stretch through her back and she hates side reins. I probably lunged her once max twice a week only for about 10 - 15mins. She seemed to cope really well with it and i found it usful in getting her used to a contact on her mouth.
Mine looked like this last year as an early 3yo (with his big, fat Cleveland Ginger mate in the background):
Then this was the end of August, when he was backed and being ridden away ie. pottering around the farm, looking for monsters:
He was turned away in September and then brought back into work late March, with a view to doing his first BYEH qualifier at the end of May, Bramham BYEH in June and a couple of BE 4yo classes.
Stafford BE 4yo:
Burghley final:
The day after Burghley he was turned away and is currently looking like a yeti/yak/hairy cob in the field, and will stay there until I have space to bring him in - beginning of April hopefully.
He was pretty much kept ticking over the whole time, worked 5 days a week, sometimes just 20 mins in the school or 30 mins hacking. He's a bit of a tinker so I like to give him one big break rather than lots of little ones: little ones would just give him a chance to regroup and think of new and more athletic ways to challenge me.
My 4 yr had done nothing really when I got her, could just about walk, trot and canter on the left rein but not on the right!
She had a very easy month of hacking with a bit of schooling, then started jumping but only once a week. Went for a couple of lessons and then did her first ever competition and jumped a double clear in the British Novice coming second!
She did another BN a few weeks later, jumping another super clear round and the the snow arrived and she has been having a holiday, which was quite good timing really. She will hopefully start work again mid Jan and aim to start her event season at poplar park, probably doing the PN but will see how the flatwork is by then
Not many photos Im afraid but her she is when she just arrived...
I join in with my rising 4 year old..lol Hes called Danny or Pony. He is roughly 15hh and is Welsh Cob X Andalusian. The funny thing is, I really want to event this one
When I first tried him out in July 2009
A piccie of him standing (August 2009)
I focused mainly on Long reining during August and pretty much the end of November and started riding him gently and in short burst in december.. The piccies below are my most recent ones in the last 2 weeks
Coco is a wild & woolly character, bit dominant.
4 in April, we've sat on him but not much else yet. Too busy trying to cope with the snow. He needs to work so we will crack on asap and get him out and about. (His feet look a funny shape - but that's sorted now)
Anyway , this is him, 16.1 or thereabouts, by Old Leighlin, out of a conn jumping mare:
This is the afternoon he arrived, when it was torrential rain - but he's never been in a stable so had to go out. He wanted to go down the field but daren't, so stood pathetically by the gate waiting to be rescued..
Over the summer he was doing 1/2 to 3/4hr a day 6 or 7 days a week, but dropped this down when the weather got worse and to give him a bit of an easier time over the winter - as it turns out he's had a very easy time the last month as we've been snowed in!! Lol!!
I'm so chuffed with how well this thread has gone! So many beautiful horses!
I will try and remember to do another thread in 3 months time and everyone can update how their baby horses are doing
