Has anyone had experience of dogs bed wetting?? Will try and keep it short.....

Our Sprocker has on about half a dozen occasions wet her bed whilst fast asleep - not a little leak but a BIG puddle :(

It started in her bed but has also happened twice in the car, always after they have had a very long walk and she has been out for the count. It's as if she is too tired to wake up and ask to go out - once she has wet the damp patch does wake her and she gets very upset, runs to the door and spins round whining a very deep whine till she is let out. We've never told her off for it as it seems she has no bladder control

We can only link it to starting after she spent 10days in Cambridge vet hospital in Jan 2010 due to blackthorn poisoning (heavily sedated/GA everyday) and when we picked her up they said that she wouldn't pee on the lead but was wetting either her kennel bedding or the kennel room floor. Since getting her home she has remained "house trained" (other then the occassional excitement dribble which she's always had) and asks to go out with no increase in frequency however, she just seems to have become a bed wetter :(

Has anyone ever heard of anything similar? Any thoughts on if it is a training thing or maybe more a physical problem? She's due vaccs soon so will have a chat with the vet also....other than this she is her normal crazy self :D

Choccy flapjack and a big mug of tea for all :)

I had a minpin that used to do that - she'd sometimes be prone to infections but later in life, the anti-b's weren't doing the job - and it was difficult to get a sample for testing acidity from her... So she got scanned and found she had a bladder tumour in the neck of her bladder. When she would strain to pee, the tumor would block the opening, and thus her bladder never emptied, til she was relaxed and she would pee in her sleep. Metacam helped for a bit - but then she also had a heart murmur and was on water tablets so that sort of complicated things.

I would def take to the vet though. Hopefully it's just an infection and nothing too sinister.

She could simply be incontinent, this is def more likely if she is dribbling when asleep, and she is obs a very clean dog and pretty anxious about the sensation of the urine on her once she stands and sees it dribble away.
There are very good meds for incontinence, I would book an appointment, and take a first early morning pee sample with you for them to rule out infection.

Flora did this when she was younger...as you say always when totally exhausted and out for the count, and it wouldn't dribble out she would totally wet herself in one go whilst fast asleep! It has happened only the once in the last 8-9 months, and this was when she was in season last, again she was totally out for the count. It's horrid, very upsetting for a dog that hasn't intentionally wee'd in the house ever since she came home at 7 weeks old, her face when she wakes up is soooooooo sad :( She isn't prone to infections or anything, the vet put it down to being just one of those things that she would hopefully grow out of, she does seem to have done....*touches wood*
