Can anyone help, Jake my working cocker spaniel who will be 13 in October has started to wet his bedding at night time when he is sleeping. He is still very active for his age and is in good shape. Do I need to go to the vet for this ?

I've no experience with dogs but my old bitch had this problem and it was easily solved with some drops to put on her food from the vet. Sorry I can't remember the name of the drug but I'm sure your vet will be able to help.

My friend's greyhound started to do this, he had tests etc and it ended up that he had dog Cushings. He's now on injections and/or tablets, can't quite remember which right now and is fine and happy with no incontinence.

I don't mean to be an alarmist, and there may be many reasons for bed wetting other than this...but my 13 yo minpin bitch started bed wetting, even though she would have free access to the garden and went out frequently. Turned out she had a bladder tumor. The tumor basically blocked the opening for the urine to come out when she tried to wee, so bladder never got empty til she was sleeping, then it leaked out because the tumor wasn't pushed up to block that opening. Metacam seems to be what they use to reduce the size of the tumor to help with that.

I would go get the vet to check it out just to be on the safe side.

Just to reassure - my old girlie (15) does this sometimes and the vets have given her a clean bill of health. It seems just to be an old age issue, slight weakening of the crucial muscles. She's more prone to it if she's not gone for a walk for a few days (her choice, she loathes the rain and the cold, always did, but now she gets a say in whether she goes out in it!) and tends to be fine if she's active and getting a good run about. Definitely worth getting your lad checked out, but just thought I'd offer a reminder that the other end of the spectrum is there too :)

Thanks to all again. I had jake to vet he is on antibiotics urine infection got to go back on Saturday for a check up.
