Before I start bringing in my horse back in at nights, I want to have sorted out any bedding choices I need to make.

I have a quite a messy horse who needs an absorbant bedding, I had him on normal shavings for most of last year then swapped in spring to eco bedding wood chips. I am considering wood pellets having done a bit of research? Does anyone use these for a wet horse? also do you buy per bale/bag or buy a pallet! I am dessperatly looking for the most economical bedding out there!
Any suggestions (and brands) are very much needed!
Thank you! x

I like wood pellets for my box-walking, dirty and very wet tb! I use a brand called Fethabed but I think that these are produced specially for our local feed merchant as I haven't found anyone else who sells them. I pay just under £6 for a 15kg bag and during the winter I use 1-2 bags per week. Having said that - I started bringing him in at night this week and I haven't had to take out the wet yet this week! You definitely do take out less than if you used shavings and certainly rugs are not as wet with pee as they can be with shavings. I'll be interested in what other people think of wood pellets and where they get them from!

Wood pellets are great. I use them under shavings because I like my bed to look nice LOL! I just skip out daily then turn the bed on a Saturday just lifting out any disturbed wet or wet that's coming to the surface.

Buying by the pallet load is far cheaper than buying small volumes from a feed merchant. I use LWP.

Same here, pellets under shavings on a deep litter bed. Every week I skim a layer off the deep litter and once a month I add a new bag of pellets and a bale of shavings every fortnight. My lad is in 2 days a week and is very wet!

hmmm wood pellets it is then! Would be nice to see what brands people use? and I am have to take the advice and layer! I do love the eco ComfyBed as doesn't stick to rugs or my orange horse (especially the night before an event!)

I do too - was great for a large oirish bed masher over the last 2 winters - and stood up really well for a 7 - 8 week box rest back in the spring. I keep it mostly deep litter in the hardest part of the winter :)
So easy to skip out & levels over easy enough, only putting in a bale every 7 - 10 days :)
