I have horses most of my life. None have ever been cast.
If one did - I would investigate why a healthy horse couldn't move effectively or if the stable was suitable.
If I couldn't find the reason why nor guarantee it would never happen again - then the horse would be on grass livery from then on.
Piling bedding around the sides of the stable wouldn't come into it![]()
Over 45years I've only had a few that have got cast but it's nothing to do with the size of thebox or anything else - for Conker it was just bad luck. He rolled over too close to the wall/ For one of the horses I worked with he was just stupid! No banks and he'd get himself cast regularly!
All very idealistic to have the horse out but not always realistic - that is why you use banks.
