Looking to save time mucking out my two boys so going to brave it and move away from my much loved shavings!

I've narrowed down my search to Comfybed or Wood Pellets but can't decide between the two. Both horses are on matting; one pretty clean and the other a scruff bag who mashes his poo into his bed and churns it all up. I'd like to deep litter in the week and then dig out the wet at the weekend.

Which bedding is going to be best, a) for saving time, b) to keep beds cleanest and c) to keep costs down?

Thoughts and experiences please!

Must admit its wood pellets all the way for me. I've been using them for about 8yrs now on rubber matting and i love them. Quick, easy and cheap, like a few people i know ;)

I'm plumping for Comfybed - and the same reasons as nix123: its so easy to do, cheap & quick - no messing about.
Just make sure you start off with a deep cover if doing deep litter for a right messy-orrible-object ;) and it will work well :)

Worked well for me for past 3 winters, over rubber matting; 1 on deep litter & the other semi :)

Thanks for repkies so far- a couple of questions though! 😉

Nix123 - which brand of Wood Pellets do you recomnend?

Fuzzy Furry - how many bales of Comfy Bed do you get throught per horse per week?

For a 16.2 last winter stabled from 3/4pm till 8am or more if weather bad: around 8/9 bales to set the bed up with banks & quite deep. Added around 3 bales in 1st week & thereafter usually 1 bale max a week.
He was a filthy pig to do & after the 1st week of topping up & packing down, it wasn't a bother :)

I also use wood pellets and would definitely recommend them as the best bedding that I have tried. I use LWP as I think they are good quality and cost effective. They have worked for my disgusting boy and have made mucking out so much easier.

I use Liverpool Wood Pellets. Daft as it sounds its cheaper to get them to deliver to me in Warwickshire, even though theres a company in the same county about 20 miles from me but they cost a lot more! I have one very messy wb and one very neat little pony, i have found if i use enough to soak up the wee and do a full clean every day i get through one bag per stable each week. I've tried the deep littering and shavings mixed with it but so far using less works best for me.

I uses to use LWP but now don't feel it makes for a comfy bed. Great if they're standing all night as its absorbant but wouldn't want to sleep on them. Though saying that they're probably good for the feathers on my lad. I'm torn at the mo between those and shavings ....:confused:

Pellets but I've never used comfibed! :p White horse (?) works out better quality and cheaper than most, I believe. Saying that, probably best for you to trial both and see what you prefer.

I used to use wood pellets, but I've changed over to Agripellets Miscanthus pellets now - they are more absorbent than wood pellets, they're lighter (so you get more) and they seem to make a softer bed as well. I also like the fact that you don't need to soak them - you put them in whole and the horse moving around on them breaks them up. They seem less dusty than a wood pellet bed as well.
