Does anyone use Equinola or similar as bedding for rabbits? My two live in a stable and are bedded on straw, but it's becoming a bit unmanageable and I thought something that absorbs wee better might result in less mess. I don't want to use shavings as they're not great for rabbits - quite dusty - but what do others use? I've got the horses on Equinola and I really like it, but I was worried that the strong smell might be a bit much for rabbits.

Thank you! I considered Aubiose - I've bought them NedzBed for now (I was passing a proper big horsey store this morning, a bit of a rarity) but I might try Aubiose next time as everyone seems to rave about it. I was hoping to use it for the horses but due to a lack of local stockists I couldn't make the costs add up, unfortunately. But the occasional bag for the rabbits would be fine.

I have used rape when that was the bedding on the yard but prefer aubiose. I think better not to have the essential oils on it that equinola does

@poiuytrewq I can't remember exactly what brand I bought but I went for one of the dust extracted chopped products in the end - possibly NedxBedz I think. It's working really well, easier to muck out and keep clean than proper straw.

I put a layer of shavings under the straw. It helps absorb the moisture and the dust free shavings are fine, particularly under a good layer of straw. I wouldn’t get rid of the straw as it’s a good warm bed for them to burrow into.

@Honey08 oh yes they still have their straw mountain in the corner, but because they're in a stable that's a lot of mucky straw to clean out if I bed them on it as well! They don't use Straw Mountain for toileting, just for den building and burrowing.

They really are! I take our way more wet/dirty straw from the bunnies in proportion to their size than the horses.

Yea mine have lived in a stable too, I had the layer of shavings under the straw across most of the stable. I find it I leave a patch of just shaving in a corner with a bit of hay they tend to toilet there. I like rubber stable mats for them too. They seemed to like lounging on the rubber. Funny little creatures, aren’t they!

I use wood pellets in my rabbits litter tray. He’s a house rabbit who permanently has full run of his own room, so doesn’t have bedding. He’s got rugs to lie on but he prefers the small bit of laminate floor that’s uncovered in his room.

Of course he does!
Mine had a huge room, It was a kind of out-building but had proper windows and doors so was in between house and ouside. It had a concrete floor which I covered in rugs and various area's of shavings or straw. She wee'd on the rugs and lay on the bare conctrete.

Oh yes, this all sounds VERY familiar......I spent years trying to encourage rabbits (I've had a lot over the years) to use litter trays. I take my hat off to anyone who's managed it, because mine have all wanted to sleep in the toilet trays and toilet in a huge patch (or patches) on the floor - whether the floor is blankets, lino, hay, straw....

Now I bed the entire stable as a toilet 😆
